With exclusives like Guilty Gear Xrd and Street Fighter V, it was already reasonably clear that Sony wants to lock down the fighting game community – but its ambitions span more than mere software. During the Capcom Cup Finals overnight, the ever enthusiastic Yoshinori Ono announced that as part of its partnership with the Japanese giant, next year’s Capcom Pro Tour will have a prize pool of $500,000.
This will be shared out across all of the 2015 season’s tournaments, and according to the aforementioned executive, has been boosted as a result of the publisher’s partnership with the PlayStation maker. While that may seem like a slightly irresponsible move from the financially challenged firm, these competitions are potent marketing opportunities – and seeing as the platform holder has locked down Street Fighter V as a PlayStation 4 exclusive, it makes sense.
It also means that the various battles will be more exciting than ever before, with the stakes significantly raised. Last night’s winner of the Capcom Cup took home a very reasonable $37,000, but it looks like there will be a real fortune to play for next year. well it does have a good controller for both 2D & 3D style fighters
I absolutely adore fighting games, the community around it, playing in arcades and competing in tournaments. I suck in almost all fighting games, but the ambiance at tournaments is wonderful. We hosted a tournament in one of the biggest cinemas in the region where the quarters, semis and finals were shown on the big screen. We had big crowds cheering and its was wonderful to be a part of it. Never got past the semis in SFIV, and even that was a combination of luck and really annoying tactics from my part, but just watching it is tons of fun.
SF is still the most prolific and I look forward to playing it on my ps4. I really hope there will be a marvel vs Capcom soon because that one I enjoy watching the most. And KI deserves a shout out as well; it doesn't have the following SF does, but its an excellent game and real fun to watch.

Playstation has always been my choice of console for fighters when compared to the xbox purely because of the superior d-pad. That's pretty awesome news for people competing and that should make things interesting
As someone who's enjoyed fighting games ever Street Fighter 2 on the Mega Drive/Genesis albeit not very skilled at it. Could someone tell me if it's worth investing in a fightstick (ideally for PS4) and how much does it improve the gameplay experience from joypads?
@adf86 Not sure if the current sticks that came out for the PS3 work on PS4 but I expect there will be a whole new range available once SFIV is released. I always wanted the Tournament stick on the 360 but it sold out pretty quick and now that Sony has SFV as an exclusive, I'd gladly part with cash for one.

In my opinion, I think PlayStation is the fighting game platform of choice for players, and I'm basing this on my interactions with FGC guys I've met and interacted with. Most serious fighting game players I've seen go with PlayStation. The ones that owned Xbox said that, while there are serious players on that platform, it's mostly casuals. Another thing is that the fighting game scene is pretty big in Japan and Asia in general, but the Xbox isn't, which is why Blazblue Chronophantasma went PS3 only.
I personally prefer PlayStation, just because it's my platform of choice but also because I feel that the Dualshock is more suitable for fighting games as opposed to the Xbox's controller. I played Street Fighter IV on 360 and I had a rough time doing special moves on that d-pad. Botching specials in Street Fighter is a death sentence. Of course you can get an arcade stick, but the good ones run you up to $100+, so it might not be worth it.

Agreed, I played fighters on PS2 and thought the controller was great ! Last gem I had a 360 and was forced to get a Madcatz Fight stick because I just could use that 360 controller for fighting games, especially 2d fighters. This time I'll get all my fighters on PS4 and the Daul Shock 4 should work just fine , though I'll still probably get a fight stick just because I got used to using one

I wonder if my MadCatz PS3 fighting stick would work on PS4. I have never been a fan of Sony's controller for fighting games.
This is actually great news if Streetie is going to be an exclusive to the PS4 cause xbox stole so many games to make it their exclusives I hope y'all suffer an hope to see u guys in ring BOYAH! 😜😚💨💨💨
