Very few retailers seem to abide by street dates these days, so it’s no surprise to see Grand Theft Auto V’s next-gen port already being streamed around the web. This early access means that information about the game is also beginning to trickle out – including details about the size of its day one patch.
According to an image on Reddit, this is a whopping 1.14GB in size, so you’re going to want to set aside a good 15 minutes or so to pull it down. It’s unclear what the update actually does, but Rockstar Games said recently that it would apply various “tweaks and optimisation fixes”. Let's hope that they're worthwhile ones, huh?

Meh, 5 minutes more. I don't care I'll be at work while it downloads anyways!
Can not wait for this game. Played the ps3 version and besides frame rate issues thought it was perfect. Whoever said you can't improve on perfection was wrong.
15 minutes!?
In NZ that'll take a good hour. Gosh darn it Rockstar.
please watch the language. Thanks -Tasuki-
5mins download here in the Uk, so won't really holde back, shall make the other half a cuppa while its downloading lol
@RaymanFan2 You sure? I live in New Zealand and this would take about 10-15mins for me. I'm just on normal broadband too..not VDSL or Fibre (my apologies if those are the same thing lol) Otherwise I can not wait for this! Pre-ordered at Mightyape and I expect it should be here 8:30am on Tuesday
I'm in the uk too, try nearer 45 min download for me!! Screw these day one updates and patches! Is it really so hard to release a finished game, free from the need to patch and update every five seconds?!?!
They should let you download and play GTA 1 while you wait, with 50 mbps it wont be that long for me but some people with a terrible connection might be waiting a while.
Ha that next gen greatness, soon we all will have hard drives for our PS4 by 2016
Great! I have the worst internet this is gonna take me about 2 hours 😂😂
The gen where a persons internet speed matters most.
150mbps so this is no issue
No big deal, I can do something else while I wait. Maybe watch TV?
Can someone please confirm if this game will still work without the patch. I dont have internet at home. Thanks
Geez, that was less than I expected. I thought it was going to be something like 10 gig!
What happened to releasing a game when it was finished? Most games now are being sold with issues then you sit around waiting for patches and updates. Really irks me!!
It doesnt matter if it needs an update, just play single player for half an hour
@brendon987
It Should still work ok. I would assume that it may fix the odd glitch here and there and slightly improve optimisation, but providing there are no game killing glitches it should still run fine. At worst case I would think it could run like Assassins Creed Unity, but I don't think Rockstar are that bad.
It's sad that the words launch patch are used constantly and all anybody is ever worried about is the file size, not the real issue.
@the_-don1
Those days are long gone and never coming back because sadly gamers are willing to bend over and take it up the a$$. Just look around this website at some articles, people actually defending Evolution and Sony over the broken f'ing disaster that is DriveClub.
Oh no it's gunna need a patch and thats going to take up 5-30 minutes of our life (5 here fibre ) and as for "stealing" our bandwidth, surely it's for things like this that we actualy have bandwidth in the first place so it's not exactly being stolen it's just being....used for what it was made for?? I might be wrong I don't have the technical know how to be sure. Anyway I canny wait for this game I have a gut feeling it's gunna be HUGE
Haven't played GTA since PS2. Stoked to pick this up!!
15 minutes more like 15 hours for me with my internet speed but ohh well hopefully its worth it. hopefully I can get it to download while i'm at work as long as the internet doesn't drop out like it usually does under strain.
Day one patches sure are a thing with every game. What if they didn't have these in the PS2 era!?
Coming from the software industry, I think there is a lot of confusion about day 1 patches and developers kicking out software too early. I think what a lot of people don't realize is that software has to be locked down weeks or months in advance in order to get into production. Some of these console manufactures won't let you sneak in last minute updates that would make the overall user experience better. Sure, maybe developers could wait a little longer, but that would mean delaying releases and possibly holding up future releases, etc. Another thing to consider is that many of the games today position themselves in the "entertainment" industry, not the software "quality assurance" industry. The longer you have QA look at a release, the more bugs they will find and with the complexity of the newer games, it gets harder and harder. In the case of GTA V for PS4, you guys aren't getting a day 0 patch, you are actually getting a -2 day patch. My hats off to people like Rockstar, because this is a delicate balance... no matter which way they go, they will get criticism.
@RaymanFan2 I'm from NZ and it sounds like your broadband is shocking, Do you live in Gore?
It could be worse, My bro got the Holo collection and that had a 7Gig update!!
