You should take everything that you read on the Internet with a pinch of salt – especially when it comes from a superfan speaking to a Norwegian blog. Do you remember the brilliant Uncharted: Ambushed fan movie from a few weeks back? Well, it caught the attention of Naughty Dog, and maker Martin Sofiedal was invited to drop by at the Californian company’s office as a result. It’s there that he apparently got an early look at Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End.
“I got to see some pretty raw stuff from the new game, including drawings of planned action sequences and how all of the characters look like now with upgraded graphics,” he purportedly told Press Fire. “It was almost scary to see Sully as an almost living person. I also got to see a few seconds of the opening scene, which is still under construction, but already looking incredible.” Sofiedal ambiguously described the leap over previous titles as “PlayStation 2 graphics to Pixar”.
He elaborated a little further on one particular demonstration that he was presented: “They showed some tests with [protagonist Nathan] Drake going through a bit of tall grass, and how every straw reacts to his movements while also responding to the wind. It was crazy; I've never seen anything like it.” It’s no surprise to hear that the first-party outfit is really pushing the PS4 – after all, this is the same organisation that made The Last of Us possible on the PlayStation 3.
However, given that we’re working with shaky translations here, it’s probably not worth putting too much stock into these comments – and even if they are accurate, we’d still recommend exercising caution seeing as Sofiedal is a series superfan in a particularly privileged position. The good thing is that Naughty Dog has promised that we’ll get a proper look at this soon, and the upcoming PlayStation Experience event seems like the likeliest venue to us.

Even if this is overblowing it, my hype for this is eternal
Now that the hype engine has been primed it is just a matter of time before someone turns the key.
I read that title as the end of the game was amazing, was fearful of major spoilers. oops
Game doesn't seem near completion, thats for sure. Think it's safe to say its closer to 12 months than 6 months away.
I've seen it too !! The trailer at e3
@rjejr Well, put it this way, the previous three numbered Uncharted titles all launched in November.
Yet again all we're hearing about a Naughty Dog game is how good it looks. Maybe this time remember to put a game in there, eh chaps?
It's definitely to early too really tell how good things will be for this game, but I am excited nonetheless. Obviously it's best to see for ourselves how good it'll be instead of trusting this.
@get2sammyb - "all launched in November."
Did not know that. Well maybe I did but never put it all together.
I still stand by my comment though, this game has been listed as "2015" since it's unveiling a year ago. 2015 is 55 days away now. They should say "late 2015" or "2nd half 2015" or "holiday 2015" or "4th quarter 2015". OK nobody ever says 4th quarter, that's just holiday, but I hate when a game gives a year when you're in that year. Not there yet I know, maybe the "Experience" will narrow things down a bit. Not everybody can be as clever as you and know that every Uncharted game releases in Nov. Think of all the newly converted MS fans, how are they supposed to know 2015 means "November"?
OK sorry, too defensive, didn't mean anything untoward in my first post, you probably didn't either.
Well, lucky him if that is true. I really want to see more on this, hopefully in December.
And I don't buy the Holiday 2015 date. ND usually delays their games, but I don't mind because that always ends up giving us a better game.
And I am gonna be that guy and say that Uncharted 2 was actually released in October
@rastamadeus hmm, dunno man. While I would say the shooting got old in all 3 games failry quickly (also, how can I see a genocidal mass murderer as a protagonist?!) the gameplay and set pieces have always been top notch. Closest thing to an Indiana Jones game for me. They are fun and full of acting gems, with real chemistry between the characters. I'm super hyped for this, but truly hope they learn from TLoU and tone down the genocide of poor canon fodder baddies.
@seeafish This actually got me thinking a bit. I think it would be nice if we were able to handle situations differently in the games instead of shooting every enemy. You know, like maybe finding a way for Nate to escape a serious firefight if the player chooses. Nate is supposed to be considered an everyman kind of guy, but mowing down everyone in sight kinda ruins that in a way and I'd like to see the gameplay suit him a bit more.
@DerMeister Yes, that would be a far better way to approach the gameplay and overall narrative. Picking up a chain gun and getting trophies for 500 headshots isn't very "everyman" heh.
I think it's a larger problem action games face. I had the same issue with the brilliant Tomb Raider last year. Her first kill was a momentous moment, but after putting an arrow through the 1000th enemy's head, it had kind of lost its taste.
TLoU did a great job of making the fighting (against humans at least) seem gritty and as a matter of life and death, but even that got a bit too much towards the end.
There are so many areas in all these games where enemies suddenly show up where I think "why can't this just be an environmental puzzle, where you need to find your way out, rather than killing people and head for the door". I got faith in ND though... I think they are aware of this and hopefully we will see something similar to what you suggested in UC4.
@rastamadeus your trolling is really slacking lately mate
So keen. So soooo keen.
@rastamadeus I personally always found plenty of awesome BESIDES the graphics in the past Naughty Dog games I've played... trolling or a serious misconception of things?!
If there'll be any game that will make me buy a PS4 - it'll be Uncharted 4.
I WANT IT NOW.
It's a Naughty Dog game, of course it will look amazing. I just hope it's not too dark. That fit for The Last of Us, given the theme of that game, but Uncharted has always been about light-hearted fun. I know they've said it won't be too much different but the project is being led by the key guys from TLoU.
Uncharted 2 and 3 both look great even by todays standards so it doesn't surprise me that Uncharted 4 will look draw dropping. I just hope its as good a game as Uncharted 2 was. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed Uncharted 1, 3 and the Vita version but Uncharted 2 was so good I literary couldn't put it down. I hold Uncharted 2 as one of my top ten games of all time.
The great thing is the XBOX ONE have the next installment of Tomb Raider releasing around the same time as Uncharted 4 and with Tomb Raider being made for both last-gen and current-gen XBOX's I doubt it will look half as good as Sony's Uncharted 4 which will show people just how powerful the PS4 just in time for Christmas 2015.
@Gamer83 Yeah but don't forget mate, those guys who worked on TLOU also worked on Uncharted 2, which some people feel was the best in the series.
