Ready to level up

In reality, it hasn’t been that long since the PlayStation 4’s hotly anticipated 2.00 firmware update was announced – but that hasn’t stopped us from yearning at the prospect of the functionality enhancing digital download. Fortunately, platform holder Sony stresses that it’s not far away now, so you won’t have too much longer to wait.

“I can’t comment on new hardware features today, other than to say that [updates] are always in the works – as previously announced there’s a big PS4 update just round the corner that we’ll be talking more about soon,” PlayStation Blog manager Fred Dutton wrote in response to a request on the manufacturer’s official website.

Presumably, a lot of the restlessness can be attributed to the fact that Microsoft has been great at releasing regular updates for the Xbox One, which makes it seem like the Japanese giant’s machine is falling behind. In truth, though, it’s planning some big features for its next refresh – including Share Play, which will allow you to take control of your friends’ games via the Internet.

Nifty stuff, huh?
