There's been a lot of noise made about Destiny's DLC locations, some of which can be accessed through glitching in the base game. Although there's not much to see in these environments, many players have expressed anger that they can be found in the first place, suggesting content has been taken from the title so that it can be released later at a price.
According to Bungie president Harold Ryan, though, this certainly isn't some sort of sinister practice. "There's a bunch of shared-world content we've shipped on the disc specifically to limit download sizes for people," he told Eurogamer.net when asked about the leaked locations. "Both inside the US and all over the world, how much you download on your local home internet connection can be a problem, and even how much storage space it takes up on your console", he continued, before adding "we share a lot of assets across all the activities in the game. When people get into areas that aren't unlocked right now, they're seeing pieces we built and shipped ahead of time, but they're by no means the finished experiences or even the finished content."
We reckon that makes sense, especially when it comes to a title like Destiny which supposedly has a long road ahead of it. Essentially, it means that the very basics of the DLC are already built into the release, with the actual content slotting into it via the download. Clever, eh?
Finally, when the online publication asks Ryan about the idea of cutting content and saving it for later, the developer answers with a firm "no", before stating that upcoming expansion, The Dark Below, was created "over the last three months, long after the game was done." That clears that up, then.
What do you make of Destiny's approach to DLC? Does it make sense, or are you a doubter? Rant and rave in the comments section below.

Like the main release, not only is the expansion lacking meat on its bones but its priced far more than its worth.
@Punished_Boss_84 Quoted for truth.
I believe this Ryan chaps comments about "its to limit size" about as much as I believe that DriveClubs servers are the best around…
Makes sense to me, and plus for an always online game, it doesn't feel as cheap to do that. Those areas will probably change a bit with the expansion too. Combining those two factors, I don't think case is an issue.
I still don't think much at all of how Destiny has been handled and I honestly think the price of the DLC is shockingly high for what it comes with. The explanation for the new locations already being there in the core game does make sense but I also still think elements of the game and its story were butchered and ripped out prior to release...a game that drip feeds you everything to increase its life span whilst also expecting the player to jump thru the same hoops over and over again isn't the kind of experience I enjoyed. I could see some amount of excitement to the expansion of it featured something new beyond some new loot pieces and following the same paths trodden before with a slight deviation to the new mission area.
At least one of the crucible locations is on a planet the campaign didn't take me to and I thought/hoped it was a tease that future expansions would open up more planets and the missions/strikes/raid that came with them....seems like anything truly new will be on hold until Destiny 2 and after Activision are done rolling around in a sea of money and cackling manically.
The only good thing I can say is at least the game doesn't feature micro transactions.
I feel like they're highly disillusioned! They really think the content they have given so far will keep players content? People all over forums have valid complaints about the repetition of missions and the reward system.
I feel every new quote/statement about the future of the game is a slap in the face to Destiny owners.
Where is Karl Pilkington when you need him, BS Man.
Liar.
Thank you.
Bungie is dead to me.
Another one bites the dust.
Seriously wish I would have bought this game on disc so I can return it - I'm so tired of money grabs. Create a great product and they will come - don't suck us dry for every last drop of money - poor form. Bungie never was so bright in my eyes and now they will be dead to me.
So Destiny took how long to make?!... And the story is VERY short and lacking any depth!!, the DLC took 3 months to make...... oO dear, I won't be holding my breath!! Glad I've got the first two DLC packs free!!
The biggest issue with destiny dlc is the price parity (or lack thereof) between the US and UK. $20 and £20 is a joke. Has Bungle never heard of an exchange rate?
there's nothing wrong with locking content on the disc and charging for it later... if you are honest about it.... you put a label behind the game noting 'some content on this disc is locked and would be made available for a fee at later date' if people still want to buy the game under those conditions that's their choice....... but if you try to pass content that is on disc as 'downloadable content' that's false advertising and its illegal
A. Aha. Ahahaha. Ahahahahahahaha. Complain all you want you are heavilly outnumbered by people that actualy play and love the game so just do the right thing stop playing and leave it to us will ya. Oh and btw I got the next two expansions at £25 thats £12.50 each expansion and I bought it from the PS+ store at the begining of the month. Its a shame these sites are not so quick to point out the ultra low prices as they are to point out the more expensive ones, eveybody loves to hate and I love to laugh at them. A. Aha. Ahahaha. Ahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha.
I think what has hurt the game more than telling a good story is the repetitiveness of the missions, bounties, strikes and raids. Hopefully they can add dozens more. The pvp mechanics are top notch though, except for a bit of bad net coding which leads to more kill trades then there should be.
@Punished_Boss_84 Amen, brother.
