Old joke, we know

Don't you just love it when the PlayStation Network is inexplicably taken offline for around the fourth time in two weeks? Yeah, so do we. Not only are you unable to jump into your favourite multiplayer game after a long day at work or school, but you have to read our rants about it, too.

Unfortunately, the time has come yet again when we have no choice but to tell you that, yes, the PSN is down once more — at least, for some of us. At the time of writing, we can't log in on any console, but Sony has been assuring gamers that it's working on fixing the problem. But the real question is: what's the cause of the issue in the first place?

Well, as daft as it seems, the Japanese giant reckons that the PS4 launch of Minecraft is to blame. Posting on its official support page, the firm notes that "the PlayStation Network is currently experiencing high volume and users may experience issues when connecting to the service," and adds on Twitter that "PSN is currently experiencing high volume of users downloading Minecraft."

Now, we realise that no service can be perfect, but with so many recent outages, it's all starting to look a bit ridiculous for the company. After all, there's a real sense of dread regarding the launch of sci-fi shooter Destiny next week, with users questioning whether or not the PSN will be able to handle the inevitable stress.

What do you make of this? Are you utterly sick, or are you using the downtime as an excuse to do other things with your free time? Unleash your rage in the comments section below.
