Silent Hills PS4

If you’ve just managed to work your way through the P.T. demo, then you may have a couple of years left to settle your nerves and dry clean your clothes prior to the release of Silent Hills, as director Hideo Kojima has hinted that the game may not be ready until 2016. That’s according to WhatIfGaming.com – and you should take this with a pinch of salt, because the site looks like it was built during the Geocities era – who also managed to coax some information out of the auteur regarding camera perspective.

“We’re not sure yet,” he said when quizzed on the subject. “Development is cycling between either allowing players to choose to play the whole game in first-person or third-person, or keeping it fixed third-person and having some areas be first-person only. Either way, we want to do something with first-person.” Considering how unbelievably scary the P.T. demo was from a first-person perspective, we think that that’s a smart decision.

Perhaps the even bigger question is whether the game will be open world like the upcoming Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. Again, the industry legend was unwilling to delve into too much detail. “All I can say is [that the] Fox Engine is meant for open world,” he said. “I cannot discuss more on the game design itself in detail yet.” One thing that he did add, however, is that it likely won’t release until 2016, so you’re going to have a bit of a hellish wait for this. Fortunately, the likes of SOMA, Until Dawn, and Alien Isolation should keep you scared in the interim.
