Summer’s ordinarily slow in the gaming industry, but the pounding in this editor’s head suggests that another convention is lurking. We’re right about a week away from German show GamesCom, which means that everything’s kicking off in the PlayStation Nation right now. And that includes several high-profile releases, spanning The Last of Us Remastered and Rogue Legacy, which we reviewed this week. We’ve also been waxing lyrical about our worries with Destiny, and penning Platinum Trophy guides. Phew.
Reviews
The Last of Us Remastered - 10/10
The Last of Us Remastered was unlikely to be anything less than sublime, and that’s the expected outcome that we’ve arrived at here. While its PS3 precursor prevents it from possessing the level of next-gen gloss that its native PS4 contemporaries contain, this is still a mighty fine looking title, and its framerate and resolution improvements only serve to solidify that. Of course, the onboard add-on packs and smattering of superfluous extras ensure that this is the definitive edition of an already outstanding affair – but, unsurprisingly, it’s the touching tale at the heart of the package that once again sets it apart from its peers.
Rogue Legacy - 8/10
Rogue Legacy's greatest strength is that you'll always want just one more try. Whether it's the fast paced platforming action, well realised RPG mechanics, or simply the desire to see what crazy things you can uncover in the castle, there's plenty of reason to keep your armour polished and ready to go. Frustrating gameplay niggles aside, this is an indie release that executes a tried and tested formula well, while also building upon it with some enjoyable, fresh systems.

Soapbox: Why Destiny Still Has a Lot to Prove to Me
I hate being the jaded gamer. Ever since Push Square’s inception, it’s always been my mandate to celebrate the industry from a perspective of positivity rather than cynicism. That negativity seeps into every facet of the medium these days; whether it's obsessing over resolutions and framerates or complete overreactions over the minutest details on message boards, I’ve always wanted to steer clear of that darker side that needlessly inhibits an otherwise entertaining pastime. This is a critical site, though, and despite approaching the recent Destiny beta with my pearly whites on display, I’ve found it difficult to indulge in the hype to quite the same degree as some of my colleagues. These are the reasons why.

LittleBigPlanet 3 was arguably the biggest shock of E3 2014, and now it has a release date. As previously alluded, the sequel will start sticking, er, stickers on your PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3 from 18th November in North America. There’s no word on a European date at the time of typing, but expect it to debut during the same week.
EA Access Exclusive to Xbox One as It Doesn't Represent 'Good Value' for PS4 Owners
We don’t think that Sony and EA Games are on the best of terms. After the latter promised an unprecedented partnership [Haha – Ed] with Microsoft for the launch of the Xbox One, we’ve always got a sense that relations are a little, well, strained. And a statement from the platform holder regarding the mega publisher’s new Xbox One exclusive EA Access subscription service has reinforced that suspicion in our minds.
This Multicoloured PlayStation 4 Has an Important Message
Sony has announced a wealth of different PlayStation 4 skins for its next-gen super machine, but they all pale in comparison to this one. Available exclusively at Swedish retailer Webhallen, the colourful unit has been designed to tie in to the Stockholm Pride Festival, which is set to kick off today. The vibrant device will be auctioned off, with the proceeds donated to rights organisation RFSL.
Destiny Will Keep Your PS4 Occupied for Months, Despite Limited Locations
To say that Destiny’s beta has been a success would be an understatement – after all, we’ve talked about little else for the past two weeks. However, while much of that discussion has been overwhelmingly positive, developer Bungie has had to move to reassure fans that there’ll be plenty of content in the impending first-person shooter, after it emerged that there’ll only be one location per planet.
PS4 Firmware Update 1.75 Brings 3D Blu-ray Support and More Today

Video: Alright, Want to Know the Best Thing About Destiny on PS4?
We’ve said a lot about Destiny on the PlayStation 4. There are some things that we love about the game, and some things that we’re not so keen on. However, there’s one thing that we can all agree on: dancing is seriously fun. No, really – we even made a daft video to prove it. Show us your best moves in the comments section below.

I think some of your concerns for Destiny are valid. Like, upgrading your gear should feel more rewarding and satisfying. Other gripes, I think, don't stand up. Like the fact that "bosses" take too long and are bullet sponges. Welcome to the world of MMOs. That's sort of their M.O. — get it? I played an MMORPG off and on for ten years. Besides the insufferable grinding, everything worth killing took lots of time, and/or lots of time to get to, and lots of high levels and abilities plus gear to kill. Just look at how long dungeons in WOW take to clear with a full team for one example. So, in my opinion, hate the genre, not the game.
But in other news, GamesCom is going to be huge this year. I can't wait for all the reveals.
