If you've got a 12GB PlayStation 3, then we've got some bad news for you. As if it wasn't bad enough that your console has barely enough room to download a decent collection of movies, or that you can only install a few games at a time before running out of space, it's now been revealed that Grand Theft Auto Online will no longer run on the half-pint system.
But panic not, as a 12GB machine will still happily play Grand Theft Auto V in single player mode – you'll just have to remain offline in order to make it work. Addressing the issue in a blog post, Rockstar wrote that "if not enough space is available on the system, hardware limitations will prevent players from accessing GTA Online", before advising anybody suffering with the problem to upgrade their hard drive – a course of action that we at Push Square fully endorse.
It's a bit of a shame to see people losing access to the online component, but at least it's a problem which can be solved without much headache. And hey, once you've got a bigger hard drive, you can sample the delights of PlayStation Plus.

I wonder how big of an install is GTA 5 on PS4...
I had a ps3 40gb for years and it was alright until I joined PS plus, almost impossible to download more than a couple of games, one reason I got rid.
AH MAN THIS SUCKS!!
Lol jk I'm not a victim.
Hdds are Dirt cheap nowadays so not really a huge deal imo. You can get an 80gb hdd for like 20 bucks. Im hoping the are some killer deals on the 12gb this black Friday so I can pick one up
No way could I of lived on only 12GB with my PS3 in the past
Iv got the 500gb model so il be fine
edit 12gig seems so pointless even my vita is 64gig
@redd214 I installed a 1TB HDD in my PS3 last year, breathed new life into my machine, HDD only cost me £55 too.
I've always thought the 12gb ps3 was a bit pointless...if I had one I'd have to get a bigger hard drive in it anyway. I'm sure a cheap 12gb Machine plus a new reasonably priced HDD would be cheaper than buying a bigger capacity PS3.
I cant imagine a lot of 12GB owners are playing GTAV, seems like a kids console to me., the kind of thing that should only come bundled w/ a Lego or Skylanders game.
@Munkyknuts Aye it is really cheap. I picked up a 12GB super-slim from CEX for my brother at the weekend and it cost £95 (with a 1 year warranty) Looking at HDD while I was there and it would only cost £18 for a 250GB Toshiba one that looked as though it had been taken from a Ps3 anyway lol Only would cost £113 altogether, which is a nice entry price for the system
I bought a 1T for my ps4 ($80) and put its 500G in my fatty ps3 ($0) and couldn't be happier
I don't see the problem as long as you can play GTA Online on a 12GB PS3 after upgrading the HDD with a bigger one.
(I don't plan on ever playing GTA Online myself though)
I put a 320gb hdd in my ps3 at xmas but even that's full after coming from 120gb I couldn't imagine only having a measly 12gb lol definitely upgrade.
If you play games like I do then you need a 1TB HDD minimum, I couldn't imagine owning a 12GB HDD.
My PS3 has a 1TB disk (which I filled the other day). A large chuck from Play TV recording though, so easy to clean up. Still, can't imagine living with 12GB, it would gimp so much of what the machine can do.
Same with the Vita. Once I got a 64GB card, the whole system opened up. You can have movies, music, games etc all at the same time. Completely different system now.
I put a 500 gb in my ps3 years ago for $100, so I can only imagine how cheap they are now. I have been patiently waiting for the ps4 version of my favorite franchise as I turned my ps3 in to pay for my ps4 before gta v launched.
I don't get it. Were you able to play it on one of these before? Why won't it work anymore?
i put an 500gb class b with ram 5400 but when i put it in the ps3 it doesn't dowload gta v
This is no longer a real problem. PSN makes more space available to signed up members for a very small annual fee. As an alternative, you can buy some fat32 usbs and store anything you want.
