In arguably the most bizarre and brilliant headline to come out of Sony's Gamescom conference today, it has been uncovered that Hideo Kojima will be creating a new Silent Hill game for PlayStation 4. Ever the provocateur, Kojima couldn't simply announce the game during the presser, but instead had to sneakily reveal it afterwards.
Indeed, after a couple of hours of sleuthing it was unearthed that the 'interactive teaser' for P.T released on the PlayStation Store during the media briefing was a actually a demo for the new title. That's right, you can try out the luminary's latest creation, which is apparently titled Silent Hills, right this very second. And as if that wasn't enough to be excited about, critically acclaimed director Guillermo del Toro has also been revealed to be working on the project, as well as The Walking Dead star Norman Reedus.
If you don't believe us – and really, who can blame you? – skip to about an hour and sixteen minutes into this Twitch stream. What do you make of this announcement? Are you excited to return to the world of Silent Hill? Get fired up in the comments section below.

This is mental, and brilliant, and mental... AND OH MY!
I wonder if this was the big 3rd party exclusive we where hearing about. In doubt it Sony doesn't moneyhat for exclusives.
This is great news, Guillermo can be hit n miss though. I hope it ends up on Morpheus...
It's probably not an exclusive — I'm so sick of reading that word today, haha — but it's still cool that the demo is on the PlayStation Store right now. COOL AND MENTAL!
Please, Sony, moneyhat Konami for this one.
@Gamer83 Why? Genuine question.
@get2sammyb
Because for once I'd like to see Sony throw a little sand back in MS' face. The sort of crap SE and EA have both pulled by taking the moneyhats doesn't benefit anybody but at this point, if you're going to be part of the game, you might as well play it. The people at MS, God bless their wonderful corporate hearts, have decided to play dirty, play dirty back. If I'm in a fight and somebody grabs a weapon I'm not going to just stand there and continue to try and throw a punch, I'm also picking a baseball bat, crowbar, whatever I can find. Those of us with PS4s who want to play Tomb Raider now can't do so because of the absolute slime that fills SE and Crystal Dynamics. Time for the Xbox guys/gals to feel it a little bit back and time for Sony to get even. The suits at Konami are no better than the suits anywhere else and the right price can buy their 'loyalty.'
That picture looks like Daryl.
Oh wait, that's because it is. Derp.
@Gamer83 Well, I appreciate your enthusiasm at least. Personally, I'd rather Sony tossed cash at expanding or creating a new internal team, rather than paying Konami to keep a game off other systems, but that's just me.
I can't find the demo on the PSN Store...
@Azikira its called P.T.
Pretty creepy. So I died once and can't do anything else?
@Azikira If you can't find it in search, look in the 'What's New' section. If one of your friends has played it, you should be able to find a link to the PS Store.
@get2sammyb
I'm an a-hole like that. I'd like to see the Xbox fanboys get a little mindf'ed. Nintendo fans have felt it the worst, Sony fans have got it a little lately. Time for the Xbots to have their turn.
Well, if you have me choose between Kamiya and Kojima, I will pick the former each and every time.
So between this and Scalebound, it is the latter for me.
FINALLY! I can't say this enough, FINALLY!!!!, Kojima is doing something different. It's about damn time, this is very big news.
@Gamer83, the best thing for Sony is to concentrate on games like they've been doing and ignore the dirty tactics that MS tries to pull. If a creature from the black lagoon gives you a signal to follow him into a black abyss, would you really do it? no you wouldn't and Sony is smart enough to not follow Microsofts tactics here because, well, it's quite dumb. Either SE/CD got screwed or MS just threw a bunch of money on a game that may not be all that great. Meanwhile, Sony is building their empire of games that are theirs.
Oh. Wait. PS4.
; ;
Ok now that was scary and surreal
@Demi_God unless its Scarlett Johansson in Under The Skin.
LOL
But also a beautiful looking game!
I like this.. Here it is! Play it now! Thing. I hope it becomes a trend with Sony. Ive been asking and suggesting it for years. Surprises are always welcome. Positive ones anyway.. Especially when it benefits the player/consumer. This is how loyalty is built.
I must say though.. Lara leaving was definitely a Negative surprise.
Wow that is great. I love Silent Hill games and I always thought that Hideo should get involved with the series.
@Demi_God
The Tomb Raider reboot was great, no reason to believe this one won't be. If Sony doesn't want to play MS' game whatever, it probably doesn't have the money to play it for very long anyway, but if MS keeps picking off big third party games and Sony continues to sit back and do nothing the tide will turn. At the very least show some actual first party heavy hitters people give a crap about.
For me, this one announcement tops anything revealed at E3. I hope the first person perspective was mostly for teaser related purposes (so you don't see Daryl until the end). The unarmed first-person wandering and hiding of Amnesia / Outlast / Alien Isolation is not something I want to see Silent Hill take a swing at.
@get2sammyb yes! Yes! And Yes! Best news ever!!!
questions, is it PS4 exclusive? is it first person only?
......................WHAT!!!!!!!!!!?
WHAT?! Never have I been closer to be banned from this side, because I was very tempted to unleash a string of profanities in the comments to express my joy!
Wow, this is insane! I played the P.T. demo yesterday and it's brilliant! Such creepy atmosphere and amazing graphics. For me personally, never before has a game come closer to photo-realistic graphics. On first glance, you could think you'd watch a movie. I was mesmerized!
And now I read it's a new Silent Hill? by Kojima?! And del Torro?! Are you effin' kidding me?! This is *babbles gibberish
Whoa...I'm off, taking a shower!
Yay downloading now it's in the demos section on ps store
I couldn't find the demo at first but downloading it now....this is so exciting
this demo is easily one of the scariest thing ive ever experienced! im in my 30s and was very young when i started watching horror movies. the movies and general horror culture quickly became an obsession of mine so ive seen a lot of freaky stuff, but this! seriously. like someone else said if this was used with morpheus, i really dont think i could handle it. can sense almost a similar vibe to del toros (the Devils Backbone). the graphics really are photo realistic and along with the realistic audio it just pulls you into the reality theyve created. for yeeeears ive talked about and wished for a new fatal frame/ghost game with photorealistic graphics that takes place present day for ps3 then later when it came out the ps4. this is pretty much exactly what i was thinking (minus the fact its SILENt HILL! and DEL TORO!). but now that its here its too much to bear lol
@Gmork___ This. Agree 100%. I'm 39 and I almost couldn't handle it when I played it alone last night with headphones on in my dark apartment.
Good on Kojima spreading his wings! Oh god he really is a trollish mastermind isn't he?
@Reverend_Skeeve that's what I'll be doing tonight when I replay it.
All we need now is a decent Rec and Evil Dead game.
@Gamer83 Don't start with that bullcrap man. Now your just pulling an xbox fanboy move just for the sake of doing it.
@SimonAdebisi Oh man, you are so right! I didn't see the remake, but the old Evil Dead is awesome! So is Rec. Good games of those would be fantastic!
And have fun tonight! With headphones and in a dark room is how those games are meant to be played, I think!
@Reverend_Skeeve evil dead remake is okay as its own film but is very unlike the original movies, worth a watch though. Rec was ridiculously good, rec 2 was okay and rec 3 was abysmal. Rec 4 the 'final' film is out in October and thankfully its a sequel to the 2nd film.
Show stopper.
Also, you can't play it right now. There is a footnote at the end that explains that P.T. is developed as a teaser to Silent Hill and doesn't represent the game.
@SimonAdebisi is "Rec" the Brit version of the Mexican original of the same name, which in America is called Paranormal Activity? Invisible ghost pulls you outta bed by your ankles, etc?
On topic: YESSSSSSSSS! I went to Disneyland yesterday but this makes me so much happier!
@charlesnarles nope, its Spanish, the american version is called quarantine
@kupo you mean like the apartment scenes of SH4: The Room to which this demo obviously alludes? 😛 Those other games copied SH (not that it really matters, just sayin')
@SimonAdebisi oh duh that's what I was thinking of (slaps forehead). Cool that there's another coming out.
@SimonAdebisi a rec/quarantine game would be GREAT! the evil dead games that have come out in the past are just too silly even though i had an enjoyable time with fistfull of boomstick on ps2. just not scary though
@Reverend_Skeeve good head phones are a MUST for this game. i use the pulse elites. i played it last night from about 12 until 3:30am. afterwards while practically hallucinating from a lack of sleep (i work early and dont normally stay up much past 12 even on weekends) i was petrified on my couch. i didnt want to move. sure as hell didnt want to walk through my hallway past my bathroom to get to bed lol. eventully after nodding off sitting up i some how found the courage to make my way to bed and my sleeping girlfriend who thankfully isnt a spoiler. though i could swear i heard breathing coming from my pillow. even right now the P.T. is haunting my mind. its the type of thing that will take a day or 2 to shake off and forget or at least stop thinking about. maybe im just crazy lol. dont know if i can handle a whole game of this caliber. (i can, and will love every second of it but you know what i mean right everyone?........anyone?)
@Gmork___ Absolutely! I "only" use a very good AKG stereo headset at the moment, but it's already amazing. 'specially with games like P.T., where the heavy breathing at the "Look behind you!"-part is always coming from a direction you are not looking in!
I haven't completed the demo yet, but after a 2 day break, I feel like I can give it a new try...maybe... And I know exactly what you mean: although I'm sure I'd love every second of it, I'm honestly not sure if I could take an entire game of this intensity...but I'm sure willing to find out!
How do you like the Pulse, btw? I'll be getting a new headset for gaming with my PS4 around Christmas and the Pulse is one of the headsets I have my eyes on.
@Gamer83
Gotta be honest here - that's a dispicable way of thinking. You are clearly bitter about the Tomb Raider sequel and understandably so. I happen to own an Xbone and the news did not come as a "win" for me. I personally would do away with exclusives and have everyone just play what they want. If only that were the case.
You however, want fellow consumers to suffer the same sour taste because of something MS has done? It's not my choice - or my fault that MS has pulled this stunt. And wishing us to miss out becuase of it is bitter.
@Reverend_Skeeve I absolutely do not regret spending almost $200 on the pulse elites. They are awesome .....BUT....the bass impact is more gimmicky than anything, I think it sounds awful when it's turned on. I just leave it off. Only thing id like is some kind of EQ in the pulse app. Imo there are not enough miss in the sound. This is an EXTREMELY small complaint. Good virtual surroundsound. Mic works great. Being able to turn up or down other peoples voices to hear over top of the game audio is super helpful. I'd say go for it
@darkwood
Damn right I'm bitter. Despite the fact that SE had advertised Tomb Raider almost as Xbox exclusive at every turn in 2013, it was the PLAYSTATION fanbase who turned out with the money. It was the PS4 owners who bought the vast majority of the 'Defnitive Edition' and what do these scumbags at SE do? Sell out. And Crystal Dynamics? Offer a pitiful, half-assed 'apology' saying this is the best thing for the TR franchise and talking about how much MS has supported them. My a$$. It was the PS users who showed up to splash their money and SE and CD f**ked us and as expected, a whole bunch of a-holes on youtube were celebrating this. And MS, a creatively bankrupt company treats it like a win and a great thing for the industry. What would be great is if MS spent half the money it does locking out other platforms from getting games on building its own first party teams but that's another story. I can't blame MS for doing what it has to and I have an Xbox One so I could play this game. But I wouldn't mind MS, and unfortunately by turn it's fanbase, have to look on with envy while PS gets a game they want but can't play. Bitter? Yeah, but turnabout is fair play. Sony basically came out recently and said it's not going to play that game though so you don't have to worry about how I feel. There's always the second option anyway, hope the Xbox guys don't buy enough copies of any future SE games and hope that PS gamers are so p*ssed they don't buy a lot of SE games and that despicable company and by extension it's studios like Crystal Dynamics all disappear. The game industry would be better for it, SE's JRPGs have sucked for years now anyway.
@Gamer83
I can see your view, because I genuinely felt the gut punch of what has happened on behalf of PS4 owners. I hate exclusives, always have. Because people do end up missing out and given that Tomb Raider has been with Sony consoles since the start of its life - its weak.
But having said that, if the latest Silent Hill game turns out to be PS4 exclusive, thats gonna sting for me. Are you going to say I deserve to feel that way because I chose to own an Xbox One? I chose this console based on exclusives mostly to begin with. Because MS forced my hand with games like Sunset Overdrive.
I didn't make the choice lightly. I shouldn't have to suffer because MS is dicking you over.
We all just want to play the games we love man
Sssooooo, this silent hill is going to kick *ss!!!
@Gmork___ Agreed. This could even exceed the very first Silent Hill, I think, which still is one of my all time favs.
And thanks for the short Pulse review!
Imo there are not enough *mids in the sound. (of the pulse elite)
@darkwood
MS isn't d*cking me over. I have an Xbox One, I can play the game if I want but I'd rather play it on PS4 and this treatment of the fanbase that has supported the series more than the Xbox fanbase sickens me beyond belief so I will not be buying and giving SE anymore of my hard-earned money, even if the game does eventually come to PS4. I have many problems with MS (as well as Sony by the way) but I also realize when it comes to the game industry they are creatively bankrupt, it's the reason the company hasn't built up a strong stable of first party teams like Sony, and especially Nintendo have, despite having been in the industry for almost 14 years now. So the best way for MS to counter is use its best asset... $$$$$. It's SquareEnix and Crystal Dynamics who have pissed me off because despite the best efforts of both those a-hole companies trying to push PS gamers away at every turn, they still keep throwing money at them and this is the repayment. And then there's all the dumb as sh*t Xbox fanboys who were blackslapping and high fiving, yeah I'd love to see them mindf**ked and a**hurt over something and the truth is, Silent Hill wouldn't be it. Sure some people might care, but most wouldn't SH doesn't have nearly the same reputation it used to. What I'd like to see is MGS V at least as a timed PS4 exclusive. That way the Xbox One fanboys, some who bought Ground Zeroes, who were also pointing and laughing at PS gamers over the who Tomb Raider thing would know how it feels. It would be awesome, but it won't happen, Sony only chases exclusives, timed or otherwise, if it's an indie game.
@Gamer83
Yeah, meanwhile Xbox One owners who aren't fanboys because they are mature enough to know better get screwed over as well just to get a shot in at the minority who are dicks? Still not a good attitude to have.
Also, your standpoint seems to be "I' m rich enough to have both consoles so if Xbox One owners get f'ed over, I got my PS4 so f**k 'em" tbh, if you, yourself own an Xbox One then I have to ask why? You attack Xbox owners, you have a hate relationship with MS and you fight like crazy to make a point of being a Sony warrior. Seems you should be happy with your PS4 and steering clear of MS. . .
@darkwood
I don't care for any of the big 3 and if you know my posting history here a Sony warrior is not what most people would call me. MS has some legit exclusives I want to play and I have a lot of friends who game on Xbox so that's why I bought an Xbox One. And this will be the last comment on make on this subject, my attitude isn't going to change, the Xbox fans pissed, moaned and complained on end about Bungie giving some timed exclusive DLC to PS4 eventhough they still get to play the game. This happens and they're high fiving and throwing a picnic. Yes, I want to see those clowns miss out on a game they might be looking forward to and I'm not sorry about it. As a friend of mine said, 'tough sh*t, you chose the console you chose.' Besides it's not like me rooting for this means it's going to happen so I don't know why you care. Be happy you got Tomb Raider and leave it at that. It's also not like Sony is in a financial situation to lock up a big name game like MS can. That's the other reason I got an Xbox One, I like third party games and it's clear MS will throw any money it can at these companies to lock those games. This isn't the first move and it won't be the last, I expect RE 7, Xbox One exclusive funded by MS (because Capcom is stupid and put itself in a bad spot money wise) announced at TGS and despite the series not being what it once was I still like it and don't want to miss out.
@Gamer83
My final point then will be - you have an Xbox One and won't miss out on Tomb Raider or RE7 (should it be an exclusive), so why are you even pissed? And I assume you are aware that the TR thing is also TIMED in a similar fashion that Destiny DLC is. So Sony fans shouldn't "piss and moan about something they still get to play." Quite frankly, every time someone throws their toys out the pram in hate on these subjects, it makes me want to kick back. Just so happens in this case I have. For the record, I didn't want Tomb Raider. Don't know why it's assumed I would. Enjoy every game that comes out, multiplat guy!
