Trine 2 PS4

That leaked PlayStation Plus list was accurate – but it wasn’t complete. As part of a couple of colossal PlayStation Blog posts, Sony has confirmed the latest set of Instant Game Collection giveaways for the month of June. These include beautiful medieval romp Trine 2: Complete Story and physics-based puzzler PixelJunk Shooter Ultimate on the PlayStation 4, as the manufacturer switches to a two titles per month format for all three of its supported systems.

Over in Europe, additional freebies will include slam dunk simulator NBA 2K14 and cross-buy survival horror Lone Survivor: The Director’s Cut on the PlayStation 3, while the Vita goodies will comprise vibrant Vanillaware brawler Dragon’s Crown and underrated puzzler Surge Deluxe. The lineup is slightly different in North America, with Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time and the aforementioned basketball game headlining on the PS3, while Terraria and Mutant Mudds Deluxe strut their stuff on the Vita. Both regions will play host to the same next-gen games.

  • PixelJunk Shooter Ultimate
  • NBA 2K14
  • Lone Survivor: The Director's Cut
  • Dragon's Crown
  • Surge Deluxe

Moving forwards, the Japanese giant will be adapting its approach to these giveaways in North America. Previously, the titles had been drip-fed over a prolonged period of time, but starting in July, everything will be made available on the first Tuesday of every month. This already occurs in Europe, and the platform holder has iterated that it will be sticking to this strategy in the Old World, too. Naturally, you’ll have until the first Tuesday in the following month to download everything that you want.

Curiously, it seems like the firm’s phasing out its evergreen titles, with no word on whether they'll be replaced. The likes of Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception and LittleBigPlanet Karting had been tentpole titles for the service, but it looks like the manufacturer is switching to a strictly month-by-month format, meaning that those long tail giveaways may cease to exist in the future. We’ll check in with the platform holder just to make sure.

Alas, while we wait for a response, we’d love to know your thoughts on this latest selection. Are you satisfied with the roster, or is it not exactly speaking to you? What are you most looking forward to downloading? Let us know in the comments section below.

Update: Sony has confirmed that its annual giveaways will no longer be part of the service. "To clarify, the annual ‘evergreen’ titles will not be replaced," blog manager Fred Dutton explained. "Instead, you’ll be getting one additional PS4 game every month. So, 2 x PS3, 2 x PS4, and 2 x Vita each month for the foreseeable future." What do you make of this move? Seeing as the Vita titles haven't changed for almost two years, we don't reckon that it's the end of the world. Either way, it's hard to grumble about six free games every month, isn't it?
