"Please be excited!"

We've known for a while that Guerrilla Games, the developer behind the long running Killzone franchise, has been cooking something up for the PlayStation 4 behind-the-scenes, but we've been noticeably short on concrete news. The Amsterdam-based outfit is hot off the heels of the slightly humdrum Killzone: Shadow Fall, so it isn't surprising that it's a bit reticent to share more details.

However, we may be hearing about the title sooner than we initially thought, as a recent promotional video has revealed that this mysterious new series has already been in development for at least two and a half years. "Well, we are working on a new IP, and we started on that already two and a half years ago," producer Angie Smets stated. "But unfortunately we cannot share details yet of the new IP, so you’ll have to be a bit more patient.”

This'll be the studio's first departure from the horrific Helghan battlefield in quite some time, so we're definitely looking on in beady orange eyed glee. What's more, when originally questioned about the new franchise, designer Eric Boltjes made it clear that the studio is aiming to branch out and try something completely separate from its erstwhile shooting escapades. Our best guess is a bright and cheerful side scrolling platformer which contains absolutely no moral ambiguity – but that could just be our ISA fatigue talking.

What impressive new adventure do you hope that Guerrilla Games has been silently working on? Would you be interested in it continuing in the first-person shooter genre, or would you prefer the developer to try its considerably talented hand at something wildly different? Let us know in the comments section below.
