After several years of complaints, cross-game chat will finally make its debut on the PlayStation 4. The feature will allow you to communicate with your friends at any time, enabling you to chat about the weather even if you’re enjoying completely different games. This functionality, however, will expand to the PlayStation Vita, too.
Responding to fan queries on Twitter, likeable Worldwide Studios president Shuhei Yoshida confirmed that the Party Chat feature will work across systems, meaning that you’ll be able to keep in touch with your buddies even if you’re playing on completely different consoles. The next generation is going to be glorious, isn’t it?

I've never, ever used Party Chat on the Vita. I'm glad that the feature is included, but, despite the constant requests, I'm guessing I'm not the only one that doesn't really see the point in this.
I used it once, I think. Friend wanted to discuss Golden Abyss treasure grinding...which as I recall we couldn't even do while playing Golden Abyss at the time. So yeah, not a very useful application for me.
Still, people want it. There ARE people who use it all the freaking time on Xbox 360, so I'm sure having that feature will help acclimate former Xbots to their new home.
@Stuffgamer1 Yeah, absolutely. I've always believed that the more features, the better, so I'm glad this is included. Not convinced I'll actually use it myself, though. Then again, I hate mobile phones for the exact same reason — I don't want to talk to people 24/7.
AW YEAH, Me and my bros can always talk and game together now!
I don't use it often
Somehow my friends like chat group
We opt to WhatsApp anyway
Awesome.
@get2sammyb I used cross-chatty on Bita. it was pretty convinient.
I like Party Chat, even though I don't use it a lot, when i played Online games on xbox I always used it so i don't have to hear people yelling and talking trash to everyone in the lobby so this way i didn't have to mute everyone one by one. BO2 introduced a Mute All function though, but i don't have it for xbox and once the PS4 comes out I'm done with CoD.
It does have it's uses though besides that.
@Gemuarto Bita? Vita right
In russian it's Вита, combine it with Vita and you will get Bita >___> LOL I don't like name Vita, really stupid, if you ask me. So I call it PSV ot Bita. In russian you read B as V... Something like that. Very complicated =(((
@Gemuarto That's pretty cool. PS Bitahhhh!
Nice to have options, I was going say I didn't see the point in cross system chat.
As I was writing that, it dawned on me that this could of course assist remote play. So yeah, good.
I keep seeing DayZ100 in all of their pictures. It's weird. Come on Day Z.
@sajoey I've noticed that too, doubt it would be that hard for them to do really

Party chat is thee best feature of XBL, Everyone uses it.
Its embarrassing that Sony have never implemented til now!!
I used it all the time on XBL. It just made the whole multiplayer with friends feel complete. I always hated that you had to mute everyone you didn't want to hear and PSN just felt kinda meh without it. Glad they are implementing it next gen.
@Gemuarto Are you insane? Vita is a fantastic name.
I used this on my Vita all the time
Cross-platform chat?? Wait, so can PS4 players chat with Xbox players??
@Lelouch Yeah, if I have different than yours opinion, I am indeed insane. Bwahahahahahahaha....
Very nice. I haven't used the party chat but once on my Vita, but considering that both me and my brother will each have Vitas and PS4s, and we both spend about 50% of our gaming time on Sony consoles, maybe this could provide an opportunity to game together, even if we're not actually playing online. We could both play the same game, and talk our way through it together. Yeah, that sounds pretty cool actually.
@divinelite I honestly thought you were going to go for a Haiku of sorts <.<
@get2sammyb If party sizes can be large enough, how about community game tournaments (like PushSquare or Gamefaqs)? With the included headset and cross-platform party chats, any competitions we may be able to have might be more orderly.
@DirectAim Ram issues on ps3 dude. PS3 RAM was splitted in to parts of 256 MB while the xbox 360 had a unified memory pool of 512 MB
