GamesCom 2013

In news one notch less predictable than water being wet, Sony has hinted that it will make the poor PlayStation 4 squint by shining a spotlight on the system during its imminent GamesCom press conference. Writing on the firm’s official Facebook page, an eager corporate scribe noted that the next generation console and its games lineup will be the “focus once again” at this year’s German convention.

Some forum goers are freaking out over the comment, assuming that the impending hardware’s presence will detract from the PlayStation Vita’s showing, but we don’t necessarily agree. There’s nothing stopping the firm from focusing on the futuristic format, and still announcing several handheld games. In fact, we suspect that this is going to be a pretty fertile showing for all of the Japanese giant’s machines.

In case you missed the confirmation over the weekend, the press conference itself is set to take place in Cologne on 20th August at 18:00PM BST (10:00AM PDT / 13:00PM EDT). As mentioned, we get the sneaking suspicion that this is going to be a really big one. But what titles do we think are going to show up? Well, we’ll have a full post on that in the future, but we’re willing to bet our left shoe that Housemarque’s recently announced Super Stardust successor appears at some point.
