Grand Theft Auto 5

There was a massive hint towards car customisation in yesterday’s gigantic Grand Theft Auto V gameplay trailer, but in typical Rockstar Games fashion, the options run deeper than yesterday’s footage. According to producer and lead mission designer Imran Sarwar, there’ll be approximately 1,000 modifications in the full game.

“We wanted to expand [the car customisation] and integrate it more deeply into the game so that it would seamlessly slot in with everything else that the player can do in the world,” he told Game Informer. “Some missions ask you to customise vehicles in certain ways, and we have taken vehicle customisation in general a lot further than we did in Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas.”

You’ll be able to personalise pretty much every facet of your ride, including body kits, paint jobs, and even tire smoke colour. “Some of the modifications that affect gameplay include brakes, engine tuning, suspension, horns, bulletproof tires, panel armour, and, of course, a general repair,” continued Sarwar. “And when you're done customising your car, you can take a picture of it using the in-game cell phone and upload [the photo] to the Social Club.”

Weapons will be similarly customisable, allowing you to drop in at your nearest Ammunation and attach bigger clips, flashlights, scopes, and more. “Attachments such as suppressors allow the player to adapt their approach to some missions and take a stealth option,” Sarwar said. “It’s all part of broadening the range of tactical options for the player.”
