As expected, Kiefer Sutherland will assume the role of Naked Snake in Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. Konami confirmed the news in its pre-recorded E3 extravaganza just moments ago, which is already kicking up some killer GIF images on NeoGAF. Is there nothing that those guys can’t turn into a meme?
Sutherland – who is best known for portraying Jack Bauer in the television show 24 – will record motion capture and voice work for the game. He’ll be replacing fan favourite David Hayter, who has voiced all of the previous incarnations of Snake, but confirmed that he will not be reprising his role earlier in the year.
Are you disappointed by this news? It was expected, but there had been lingering hope that this was just another of series creator Hideo Kojima’s ruses. Sutherland is obviously a great actor, but it’s just not going to be the same without Hayter, is it?

well i will be strange not to here David's gruff voice, i think that it's a good thing that they are trying to make Big Boss and Solid Snake different to each other i mean after all Liquid and Solidus didn't have the same voice as Solid either and they were clones too
Not sure why everyone likes Hayter so much. With all due respect =), he has some really medicore moments in MGS, especially in MGS 3 and 2. But he was pretty good in Peace Walker and MGS1, if you ask me. Glad that Kojima tries to make his games better. Change of music composers in Peace Walker did amazing job =).
they could easily just say they had to do some changes to his vocals during surgery in the new game and it would make sense even more lol
Has Snake always been "Naked Snake"? I can't recall ever seeing that before. I didn't play Peace Walker though.
Is Otacon in the game? He's the only video game character whose ever had the same last name as me.
@rjejr Naked Snake was codename of Big Boss, before he became Big Boss in the end of MGS3. So Snake never was Naked Snake, as far as I remember.
Holy... What a weird but sane choice. He's got a great film repertoire (haven't even seen 24). I'm impressed they picked him, honestly. Good for him. Good for them. Good for us. : ) what a good year

I liked Hayter's work but this is a very interesting replacement. Could be end up a really good choice in the long run.
@Gemuarto - Thanks for the history lesson, though to be honest I don't recall Big Boss being Naked Snake either. Though the new game being about Big Boss does make sense as my wife asked me at dinner how they are making a new MGS game when Snake died at the end of the last one. I told her w/ all the clones floating around they could make as many games as they want.
@rjejr Snake in MGS world is a common name for field operatives,. So you can call all of them Snakes if you want. The guy who "died" SPOILER ALERT* in MGS4 had codename Old Snake, as far as I remember. But he had codename Snake in MGS1, yeah.
