"You're going down"

Final Fantasy XV, where have you been all our lives? The title – formerly known as Final Fantasy Versus XIII – was re-revealed with a spectacular cinematic trailer during Sony’s E3 2013 press conference earlier in the week, and now Square Enix has followed up with a bunch of gameplay footage. Unsurprisingly, it still looks absolutely ace.

The Japanese giant appears to have shed the tedious turn-based combat from previous entries, adopting a more action-heavy approach. This footage shows protagonist Noctis fighting up the side of a giant skyscraper building, before taking on a giant beast in almost Devil May Cry-esque third-person swordplay. It looks like there’ll be some shooter mechanics in there, too.

Sadly, there’s still no hard release window attached to the PS4 title. Speaking at a special E3 presentation overnight, Square Enix said that the sequel will deploy after 31st March, 2014. The game’s been in development since 2006, so let’s hope that we’re not forced to wait too long.
