Talking Point: What PS4 Games Will Be Announced During Sony's PlayStation Meeting?

At the end of the day, it’s all about the games. Sony may be planning to quench our thirst for new hardware with torrents of tech specs and refreshed controller designs, but tomorrow’s hotly anticipated PlayStation Meeting will be a letdown if there aren’t any PlayStation 4 software announcements to cement our excitement. Thankfully, we doubt that the platform holder will leave us empty handed, so what new titles can we expect to see?

Mud slide

In truth, we’re not anticipating an enormous number of reveals. We expect that the majority of titles will be saved for E3, so we’re only counting on a handful of demonstrations to whet our appetite. With that in mind, the manufacturer will want to focus on games that have been in development for a while – and we reckon that new projects from Guerrilla Games and Evolution Studios will be a lock.

There haven’t been many rumours regarding actual content for Sony’s next generation machine, but anything that we have heard has revolved around the aforementioned European studios. Runcorn-based developer Evolution Studios is rumoured to be working on a street racing game, with former Bizarre Creations designer Ged Talbot reportedly at the helm. Meanwhile, Guerrilla Games is thought to have a couple of projects in production, including a fantasy RPG and Killzone 4.

Forgotten friends

Both studios have outstanding pedigree when it comes to their technical ability, which makes them prime candidates for tomorrow’s press conference. Sony will want to display a distinct improvement over its current generation console, and there’s no doubt that the first-party teams will be up to the challenge. Expect both studios to factor heavily during tomorrow’s event.

While we believe that the emphasis will be on the aforementioned developers, there’s a good chance that we may get a glimpse of other first-party content via a montage or showreel. The likes of Naughty Dog, Sucker Punch, Sony Santa Monica, Media Molecule, Quantic Dream, and Ready at Dawn have all been linked with the next generation machine over the past twelve months, so there’s a chance that they could feature in some form. As we’ve already mentioned, though, we suspect that the bulk of the announcements will be reserved for E3.

The next big thing

Of course, one wildcard could be The Last Guardian, which has snowballed back into the spotlight in recent weeks. Both rumours and common sense suggests that the long overdue Team ICO title has switched systems behind the scenes, and re-announcing it for the PS4 would guarantee a strong coming out party for the under wraps exclusive. Given director Fumito Ueda’s recent comments, we wouldn’t be surprised if the title factored into tomorrow’s press conference in some form.

And then, of course, there’s third-party content, too. Seeing as French publisher Ubisoft loves a new platform launch, we reckon that the uber-pretty Watch Dogs will make an appearance in some form. Star Wars 1313 also seems like a solid fit, considering it hasn’t been properly announced for any existing platforms yet. And we think that there’s a strong possibility that Hideo Kojima will show up – perhaps with a new demonstration of Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes in tow.

Don’t rule out lots of logos either. Assassin’s Creed, FIFA, and Call of Duty will all be mentioned at some point during the press conference, but we’re not expecting to see any specific footage. Are there any titles in particular that you’re hoping to see revealed during the event? Let us know in the comments section and poll below.
