At the end of the day, it’s all about the games. Sony may be planning to quench our thirst for new hardware with torrents of tech specs and refreshed controller designs, but tomorrow’s hotly anticipated PlayStation Meeting will be a letdown if there aren’t any PlayStation 4 software announcements to cement our excitement. Thankfully, we doubt that the platform holder will leave us empty handed, so what new titles can we expect to see?
In truth, we’re not anticipating an enormous number of reveals. We expect that the majority of titles will be saved for E3, so we’re only counting on a handful of demonstrations to whet our appetite. With that in mind, the manufacturer will want to focus on games that have been in development for a while – and we reckon that new projects from Guerrilla Games and Evolution Studios will be a lock.
There haven’t been many rumours regarding actual content for Sony’s next generation machine, but anything that we have heard has revolved around the aforementioned European studios. Runcorn-based developer Evolution Studios is rumoured to be working on a street racing game, with former Bizarre Creations designer Ged Talbot reportedly at the helm. Meanwhile, Guerrilla Games is thought to have a couple of projects in production, including a fantasy RPG and Killzone 4.
Both studios have outstanding pedigree when it comes to their technical ability, which makes them prime candidates for tomorrow’s press conference. Sony will want to display a distinct improvement over its current generation console, and there’s no doubt that the first-party teams will be up to the challenge. Expect both studios to factor heavily during tomorrow’s event.
While we believe that the emphasis will be on the aforementioned developers, there’s a good chance that we may get a glimpse of other first-party content via a montage or showreel. The likes of Naughty Dog, Sucker Punch, Sony Santa Monica, Media Molecule, Quantic Dream, and Ready at Dawn have all been linked with the next generation machine over the past twelve months, so there’s a chance that they could feature in some form. As we’ve already mentioned, though, we suspect that the bulk of the announcements will be reserved for E3.
Of course, one wildcard could be The Last Guardian, which has snowballed back into the spotlight in recent weeks. Both rumours and common sense suggests that the long overdue Team ICO title has switched systems behind the scenes, and re-announcing it for the PS4 would guarantee a strong coming out party for the under wraps exclusive. Given director Fumito Ueda’s recent comments, we wouldn’t be surprised if the title factored into tomorrow’s press conference in some form.
And then, of course, there’s third-party content, too. Seeing as French publisher Ubisoft loves a new platform launch, we reckon that the uber-pretty Watch Dogs will make an appearance in some form. Star Wars 1313 also seems like a solid fit, considering it hasn’t been properly announced for any existing platforms yet. And we think that there’s a strong possibility that Hideo Kojima will show up – perhaps with a new demonstration of Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes in tow.
Don’t rule out lots of logos either. Assassin’s Creed, FIFA, and Call of Duty will all be mentioned at some point during the press conference, but we’re not expecting to see any specific footage. Are there any titles in particular that you’re hoping to see revealed during the event? Let us know in the comments section and poll below.

I Will scream in public: For the glory of helghan! If killzone 4 will be announced. If the last guardian will be announced... My jaw will drop...
Ill just say Versus 13 and leave it at that. But i doubt they will show new IPs, rather i think they will go with well known franchises that they can show a short video for or even just logo.
versus 13 and i will buy 2 ps4...pls square enix make it happen...
I want The Last Guardian, GTA and Phantom Pain on PS3. I also want to see one or two new first party franchises for PS4 and for a low price entry. That has to happen or the machine will bomb thanks to today's economy.
@rastamadeus Just like the wii U?
If they, at the very last moment, surprise us with news about The Last Guardian, I am totally completely absolutely sold no matter what, really.
@JavierYHL
I would buy 4 ps4 if all these games are announced... one for the living room, one for the bedroom, one for traveling, and one as backup. Especially versus. This Gen seems to lack good JRPG's. Ni No kuni is the only good JRPG so far this Gen.
Here's a good guessing game - how long will the presentation last?
I'll say 90 minutes, but based on this an the earlier blog I'ld say 3 1/2 days.
@rjejr Haha. I'm guessing about 90 minutes, too. Maybe less.
I'm trying to think of a game that would make me want to run and buy a PS4 and other then a new Monster Hunter game(which doesn't look too likely) I don't think there is one.
I'd like to see a new Ratchet & Clank,Crash Bandicoot,Ape Escape or Jet Moto games and it wouldn't be a Playstation if it didn't a have new Gran Turismo.
A new Tomba would blow my mind but that's not gonna happen. A new Patapon game would be great too but that's more likely on Vita.
Uncharted 4 would get me excited for the PS4. The next game by Sucker Puch will also hold my intrest greatly if they keep with their tradition of not making M games.
I want to see a new franchise, the PS4 shouldn't get by on the success of it's brothers franchises.
@Zenith Scream of happiness!
@Zenith I could totally imagine that, way to bring back an iconic character.
Fantasy RPG from Guerilla? Am I dreaming?
Where's Fallout 4?
Last guaaarrddiiian
I'd be sorta surprised if Killzone 4 is going to be a launch title for the PS4 (assuming it's actually launching this year), because Mercenary is coming out in September. I do think they are going to have a trailer for it at the very least, though.
@Sanquine You trying to suggest the Wii U isn't failing badly at the moment? Or trying to subtly accuse me of being a Nintendo fanboy? Sony (and Microsoft) should be looking very closely at the Wii U situation as its just as likely their new consoles could struggle as much as Nintendo's.
I dreamt last night that as an apology for The Last Guardian taking so long Sony announce it'll be on PSN as soon as the PS4 unveiling show is over, free for everyone for the first week. Last time I dreamt about something actually happening Liverpool came back from 3-0 down to beat Milan.
i want to see a new Uncharted on PS4
@rastamadeus Trying to say the wii U is not failing either.. I mean it is just like vita. Without third party you are dead. The periods between releasing is just to big..
