Time attack

Don’t think that Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 Plus will be going soft in its transition to the PlayStation Vita, because publisher Tecmo Koei has confirmed that handheld port will be bloodier than ever before. The title, due out on 26th February in North America and 1st March in Europe, will boast a bevy of new modes, in addition to a handful of original weapon upgrades and pre-order bonus outfits.

The first of the new modes, Ninja Race, will see you sprinting through dynamic courses trying to beat the clock. “You can strategically choose to dash through the course or viciously kill as many enemies as possible to earn boosts and points,” community manager Chin Soon Sun explained on the PlayStation Blog. “Three special essences, exclusive to the Ninja Race mode, boost the player’s chance of a successful mission: Green Essence adds time to the clock, White Essence boosts the Combo Kill counter for added damage, and Purple Essence grants Ninja Speed.”

The other fresh addition, Tag Missions, will find you flitting between team members in real time in order to dispose of a variety of foes. “With each fighter having different strengths and weaknesses, players can strategically tag back and forth when facing different opponents and situations by pressing down on the directional pad,” Sun added.

To sweeten the deal, the port will feature a slew of new weapon upgrades, and, if you pre-order, you’ll nab a selection of exclusive costumes for female warriors Ayane, Rachel, and Momiji too. There’s a new trailer embedded in the space below. Is your blade hungry for more bloodshed? Let us know in the comments section.
