You will suffer

We don’t know why we credit these movie tie-in stories with bandwidth anymore, but we suppose that God of War is too big to ignore. Apparently, platform holder Sony has commissioned a flick based on the feisty franchise, with scriptwriters Patrick Melton and Marcus Dunstan given the go ahead to re-write Kratos’ story if necessary.

Chatting with Shock Till You Drop, the pair pointed out that the company is particularly keen to avoid comparisons to Clash of the Titans, which is going to be a challenge if you ask us.

“Those movies can inform God of War to step in a more bold direction,” Dunstan said. “Not to join those ranks, but to stand head and shoulders apart like other reinventions have done within that genre. The satisfying element is to look at those movies as a commentary on the genre and now say something different.”

Allegedly, the God of War movie will tell an origins story similar to Batman Begins. “You’d think [that Sony would] be sacred about the origin story and all of that, but they were encouraging us to make it different from those movies and if that means going in dramatic shifts, they were cool of it," Melton added. "They’re involved.”

Of course, as with most video game movies, it'll never get made.
