Brave new world

Details regarding the next game from Halo creators Bungie have leaked online, confirming that the legendary studio is about to make its debut on PlayStation 3. According to the super secret information shared with IGN, the upcoming Destiny is a “sci-fantasy action shooter” that’s designed to be both “fun and accessible”. The title will supposedly boast “a universe as deep, tangible and relatable as that of the Star Wars franchise”.

In response to the leak, Bungie uploaded a single piece of concept art to its website. The accompanying post noted: “Go ahead. Take a peek. It's alright. We weren't quite ready, but we will be soon, and we can't wait to finally show you what we've really been up to.”

The image shows the Earth in a future that’s "littered with the ruins of man's Golden Age”. Honestly, it looks a lot like Killzone. “A massive, mysterious alien ship hangs overhead like a second Moon. No one knows where it came from or what it's here for, but only that it's our protector,” the marketing material uncovered by IGN added. “Meanwhile, strange, alien monsters creep in from the edge of the universe, determined to take Earth and the Last City. We are young ‘knights' tasked with defending the remains of humanity, discovering the source of these monsters, and – eventually – overcoming it."

Court documents revealed as part of Activision’s lawsuit with Jason West and Vince Zampella previously indicated that Destiny would launch as an Xbox 360 exclusive in 2013, before spreading to Sony’s next generation console a year later. That doesn’t appear to be the case anymore, as Bungie’s website even acknowledges that it’s hiring PS3 developers.

You can get a good look at the game over on IGN. In the meantime, let us know whether you’re excited to see Bungie branching out in the comments section below.
