Resident Evil 6 Kick-Starts Sony's Day 1 Digital Initiative

Posted by Sammy Barker

New beginnings

The most attentive amongst you may have noticed that Sony’s started to get really aggressive with PS3 digital downloads. Titles like Borderlands 2 and Sorcery have all launched on the PlayStation Store alongside their retail counterparts – and that’s going to happen a lot more in the future.

Sony’s announced a new Day 1 Digital promotion in North America, which will see major PS3 releases available on the PlayStation Store at exactly the same time as retail. Some of the titles will include a 10% discount for PlayStation Plus subscribers.

Sadly, there’s no news on Europe’s pre-load feature making its way Stateside, which would make this initiative a whole lot more enticing. Pre-load essentially allows you to download a game in full before it launches, ensuring you’re ready to play the moment the release date rolls around.

We've included the full line-up of October releases in the space below:

Resident Evil 6
(Available for download on October 2nd – $59.99)

NBA 2K13

I was just talking with a friend about this, you are really starting to see more and more day 1 digital releases. I think it's great more options are always a good thing.

The only down side is that they will stay at the $60 price tag long after the retail versions drop in price.

I'm pretty sure that in the Aus store it says that you can download LBPK before it's released.

Weird, I would've thought they did day 1 digital retail releases before seeing NSMB2 was day 1 release
