Intellivision Reinvents Classics for PlayStation Home

Chances are the majority of you weren’t born when the original Intellivision released – but games such as Astrosmash and Shark! Shark! have left an indelible impression on the modern games industry. Now, courtesy of PlayStation Home, you’ll be able to play a handful of these classics lovingly re-mastered in HD.

“We kept the basic look of the games recognizable to tickle the memories of our lifelong fans: still a bit blocky, but with a retro-pixel-inspired look,” explained Intellivision Productions’ Keith Robinson on the PlayStation Blog.

Favourites include the aforementioned Astrosmash and Shark! Shark!, in addition to the desperately tense labyrinth crawler, Night Stalker. It’s unclear how the games will be distributed, but we’re assuming they’ll be sold as standalone arcade cabinets for your personal space.

Regardless, the titles will be released later this year. Let us know if you're excited in the comments section below.

Astrosmash in Playstation Home in HD, hopefully will be great. Loved the game on the Intellivision, and looking forward to see how they've updated things. Bring on more retro remakes! If they asked me (they didn't and won't) I would like some Intellivision Space Hawk, and Auto Racing too.
