Rumour: Studio Liverpool Was Working on WipEout for PS4
Posted by Sammy Barker
Hard to swallow
Famous PlayStation developer Studio Liverpool was working on a WipEout title for PlayStation 4, Eurogamer.net reports. The game was described by sources as being “dramatically different” to previous titles in the series, though specifics are unlikely to ever be revealed.
The website continues that the game had been in development for 12 to 18 months, which gives a pretty clear snapshot of the current state of PS4 development. It was “pretty far along” sources claim.
However, that wasn’t the only next-generation title in the works at the legendary studio. Apparently the team was also working on a Splinter Cell-esque adventure that used motion capture technology similar to that employed by L.A. Noire.
Both projects were cancelled alongside this morning’s closure.

I wonder if the Splinter Cell-esque title could have been Syphon Filter. There were rumours that the franchise had been moved to the UK (though Studio London was the team attached to the title in that case). Food for thought.

I wouldn't think Sony would abandon such an acclaimed series for the next generation, hopefully the work will follow the dev's internally.

Wipeout as a PS4 launch game. Even better, slicker graphics. More thumping soundtracks. God, I feel like crying.

This is like pouring salt on a wound. It doesn't seem right releasing PS4 without having a new Wipeout title at launch. I just can't believe they put that much work into these new games just to get shut down. Bad move, Sony.

@SilentJ I'm still trying to make sense of it. I can perhaps understand cancelling the stealth title, but WipEout is a guaranteed seller at any platform launch. For it to be so far along and get shelved is unsettling to me.
