Battlefield 4 will take place in modern times, DICE has confirmed. Specific details about the sequel are being kept under wraps for the time being, but general manager Karl Magnus Troedsson did confirm the time period during a GDC Europe panel earlier today.
"We still want to stay in this genre, the modern day as it is. We feel this is a place we can be and continue with the series. Battlefield 4 can live in this space and be very successful,” the executive revealed.
We don’t know about you, but we’re getting tired of all these modern day shooters. The idea was novel back when Infinity Ward tackled it with Call of Duty 4, but recent announcements have left us longing for a return to the old days of World War II. Desperate, we know.

I miss WWII. I was a little burnt out on it at the time, but now there are SOOO many more modern shooters that might take that extra leap to killing aliens, but in the end it all feels the same.
I want the gritty, early to mid century mayhem that made this genre what it is today.
