Proud as punch

Not content with dominating the charts across the pond, LEGO Batman 2: DC Super Heroes has also topped the North American best-sellers for the month of June. But while developer Traveller’s Tales will be cracking open the champagne in celebration, the rest of the sector won’t be quite so enthusiastic. The entire industry dropped once again, bringing in 29 percent less cash than the year prior.

Hardware dwindled by a whopping 45 percent year over year, though each of the platforms (excluding the PS2 and PSP) saw an improvement over May. Software also dipped by 29 percent, while accessories rose by a measly four percent. NPD analyst Anita Frazier puts the latter down to an increase in expenditure on pre-paid vouchers, as gamers begin to look towards digital outlets during the slow summer months.

As previously discussed, LEGO Batman 2 shot straight to the summit of the software sales charts. It sold a respectable 450k units across all platforms in June. Meanwhile, Ghost Recon: Future Soldier entered in second and Diablo 3 finished in third. The Amazing Spider-Man just about managed to swing into tenth, while mainstays such as Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 and Battlefield 3 rounded out the rest of the chart.
