The Shigeru Matsuzaki effect

The release of the crystal white PlayStation Vita in Japan didn’t do a lot to improve the ailing system’s sales, but it did push the platform back above the 22k units threshold. The handheld was actually the second best selling console of the week, with Nintendo’s 3DS way out in the lead.

Pokémon continued its rule of the software charts, while new PlayStation 3 title Atelier Ayesha: Alchemist of the Ground of Dusk debuted in second, scooping sales just shy of 76k units. PlayStation Move powered on-rails port Resident Evil Chronicles: HD Collection finished in sixth, as Tokyo Jungle dropped all the way down to 15th.

On Vita, the Metal Gear Solid HD Collection launched with a respectable 23k units, while Persona 4: The Golden stayed strong in unlucky 13th.
