Japanese Sales Charts: Tokyo Jungle Strides to Summit
Posted by Sammy Barker
Vita sales increase
Sony’s bonkers PlayStation 3 exclusive Tokyo Jungle roared to the top of the Japanese sales charts this week, beating out fierce competition from Dragon Quest Monsters on 3DS. The baffling post-apocalyptic adventure rounded up sales just north of 110k units to secure the number one spot.
Elsewhere, PlayStation Vita exclusive Gundam Seed Battle Destiny finished in third with sales just over 40k units. It was a decent week overall for Sony’s new handheld, with the system almost doubling its hardware tally to over 13k units for the week. It’s nothing worth getting excited about, but it’s definitely a sign of life.

Unsurprisingly, when new games launch on Vita, the hardware numbers increase. The platform just needs a good string of releases to take off.
Also, great numbers for Tokyo Jungle.

Wow, it outsold Dragon Quest! And man, the 3DS is a juggernaut over there!

@turtlelink Yeah, 3DS is unstoppable at this point. I'd just be happy to see the Vita doing a consistent number around 20k.

Looks like PS Vita won't catch the 3DS anytime soon, if ever, and that's unfortunate because the Vita does have better hardware and I'd like to see the system with more horsepower be the main platform of most developers. At least the numbers are improving.

@Gamer83 As long as the Vita sells well enough to encourage development, then I couldn't care less about hardware battles.

Good point, it doesn't need to catch the 3DS to be a viable system, sales still do need to improve though, like you said, somewhere in the 20K range consistently would be nice and who knows, if they can put together a nice batch of releases maybe sales will go even higher.
