Konami has confirmed that it’s working on Pro Evolution Soccer for the PlayStation Vita, but cautioned that the game might not be ready in time to coincide with the release of the upcoming PES 2013.

The Japanese publisher recently confirmed PlayStation 3, PlayStation Portable and, impressively, PlayStation 2 versions of the franchise’s latest iteration – leaving Vita left out in the dark.

But in an interview with Eurogamer.net, producer Naoya Hatsumi has confirmed that the PES team is working on Vita after all.

He said:

We're not saying that we're not going to have PES on the Vita forever. We're working on development for a Vita version, of course, but it may not happen for PES 2013.

Hopefully the studio can get its footie franchise running on Sony’s shiny new handheld in time for next year’s inevitable entry.
