Now you can curse the existence of campers in the garden too

The PlayStation Vita will finally get its first taste of competitive FPS action next month, when Resistance: Burning Skies launches worldwide.

Following a slight hiccup on the official PlayStation website earlier in the month, Sony’s finally raised the curtain on the spin-off shooter’s multiplayer component in a PlayStation Blog post.

As previously announced the game will support up to eight-players, with two-on-two and four-on-four modes available. The multiplayer’s been designed around small, intense battles (which makes sense given the format), and includes Quick Match and Party support.

A Call of Duty-esque ranking system will be included to acknowledge your progress. As you perform “acts of skill” in game, you’ll earn XP which can be contributed towards unlocking new weapons and upgrades from the single-player campaign.

Interestingly, the game will also boast a weapon modification feature, allowing you to customise the look of your weapons and augment new abilities such as explosive tags for the fan-favourite Bullseye.

The multiplayer will feature three game modes: Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch and another yet to be announced. There’ll be six maps included with the main game – with, we suspect, more to come via DLC.

The game will also feature Near functionality, allowing you to unlock valuable XP multipliers for the multiplayer component.

As expected, there’s nothing particularly ambitious about the mode – it’s simply copying what works well on consoles – but the fact that it's running on a handheld makes the implementation especially intriguing.

You can catch a glimpse of the multiplayer in action in the trailer below. Looks decent, doesn't it?
