Customise your clothing on PS Vita

Dust 514’s scrapped its $20 price-tag in favour of a much more accessible $0. Developer CCP confused gamers last year when it confirmed that the PSN title – which was originally announced as a free game – would carry a price point of $20. At the time, CCP intended to reimburse players with $20 worth of in-game credit. It has since scrapped such plans.

CCP’s Brandon Laurino explained in an interview with Eurogamer:

We wanted to make it unambiguously that this is a free-to-play game. We probably will still have some kind of pack like that.

As originally intended, the PS3 exclusive will be supported by microtransactions, though Laurino is keen to stress that the game will not be a “pay to win” type of experience. None of the additional items available will give players an unfair advantage.

But with positive information about the PS3 version comes sad news about the PS Vita release. It seems CCP is not intending to port the PS3 title to Vita in its entirety, rather create a “companion app” for the main game. Functionality on Vita will include character customisation, shopping, and more, all interacting directly with the PS3 game. Neat, but not what we had in mind.

Laurino did not rule out the prospect of the Vita version transforming into a full game at some point though. He continued:

As we continue to explore what the possibilities are, between Vita and PS3, of which there are many, we'll keep updating the app with stuff like that over time.

Time to cross those fingers.
