Sony’s not averse to the idea of bringing its brands to new markets, Worldwide Studios president Shuhei Yoshida has said.

The executive pointed to the manner in which Facebook was used to promote inFamous 2 and Resistance 3.

He said:

We’ve been discussing [leveraging social and casual platforms] and if you noticed, we released an inFamous themed Facebook game at the launch of inFamous 2.

So we are experimenting, and I don’t necessarily believe we’re competing against cell phones or social networks – because everybody uses Facebook and lots more people have cell phones and smartphones already. With people’s lifestyles, they’re always connected and engaged socially, so why not put our IP on there.

It’ll be interesting to see whether Sony brings any of its major brands to PlayStation Suite, the company’s cross-platform Android gaming initiative. The service is in beta right now, so we’ll have to wait and see.
