An example of what to expect

Epic Games has committed to showing off the next-gen version of its Unreal Engine 4 middleware technology at next week’s Game Developers Conference. Sadly, the presentation will be limited to “select licensees, partners and prospective customers” bound by strict NDAs. In short: we won’t be getting a glimpse at the new engine anytime soon.

Epic Games wowed attendants of last year’s show with its gob-stopping Samaritan demonstration. Unreal Engine 4 is targeting new consoles such as the PlayStation 4.

Unreal Engine 3 was widely adopted by developers and publishers this generation, with notable titles including BioShock and Batman: Arkham Asylum.

Despite its prominence, the current iteration of the technology has been criticised for texture pop-in and inconsistent performance.
