Good luck trying to beat our best times

MotorStorm RC’s heavily publicised cross-platform compatibility might not be quite what we had in mind when the game was first announced, but the title’s still shaping up to be a delightful downloadable treat.

Nothing evidences that better than this brand new trailer, which shows off the game’s Playground – a kind of playable menu similar to ModNation Racers’ ModSpot – and online competitive play.

The trailer focuses on a mode called Hot Lap, which sees you racing against yourself and friends in order to claim the ultimate bragging rights. Times are tracked in a feature called the Pitwall, which is inspired by Need For Speed’s fantastic Autlog. It all looks ridiculously addictive.

Game director Paul Rustchynsky explained on the PlayStation Blog:

Competing like this, on your own schedule, is a perfect fit for both MotorStorm RC and the PlayStation Vita, letting you pick up the game and compete against friends when it’s convenient for you. Whether you’re playing on your PS Vita or PS3, for a few minutes or a few hours, out and about or in the comfort of your own home, you can always see what’s been going on and get right into the heat of competition.

Remember, you’ll only need to purchase one copy of MotorStorm RC to play the game on your PlayStation 3 and PS Vita. Let's hope that all future cross-platform games adhere to the same BOGOF philosophy.
