The Last Guardian: not cancelled, just missing in action.

The US retailer caused a furore when it contacted customers holding pre-orders for the Team ICO developed title, informing them that the game had been cancelled.

Sony immediately followed-up the story, declining that the game had been canned. But with the number of high profile departures at the Japanese developer recently, the story gathered pace quicker than Sony could stop it.

GameStop's since issued a statement, blaming the rumours on a clerical error and apologising to fans and Sony Computer Entertainment.

“The Last Guardian has not been cancelled by Sony as we incorrectly stated in an automated call to reservation customers,” the store said in a statement published by Kotaku.

“Because the game did not have a specific release date, GameStop made the decision to remove the game from our system. The Last Guardian will be reinstated for pre-order when a firm launch date is known.”

All's well that ends well, huh? Well, apart from the fact that we haven't seen The Last Guardian in action for almost two years. You can't really blame GameStop for assuming it had been cancelled.
