Sony's set to update its Torne DVR application with full PlayStation Vita support next month.

That functionality is due to arrive next month via a new firmware update that will bring the Torne's software up to version 3.50.

With the update you'll be able to write video to your PlayStation Vita's memory card, and use the system as a local playback device. These are functions currently accessible to PSP owners, but Sony stressed the higher resolution of the PlayStation Vita as a reason to upgrade.

Sadly PlayStation Vita's remote interaction with Torne will not be accessible with 3G, though you will be able to access some features outside of the home via a Wi-Fi hot-spot.

Sony did not offer a date for the firmware upgrade, but it is expected before the Vita's launch on December 17th.
