SCEE executive Jim Ryan believes Uncharted: Golden Abyss is the crown in the PS Vita's launch line-up.

The portable, which released in September 2005 in the UK, sold over 185,000 units at launch — a number yet to be beaten. But SCEE boss Jim Ryan believes that the PlayStation Vita will easily outpace its predecessor.

"We're planning for a condition of success," the executive told Eurogamer. "Launch quantities will sell out - I think that's looking pretty certain."

Pushed on whether the system will overcome the PSP's unbeaten figure, Ryan continued: "Subject to supply, yes, it is our belief that we will beat that with Vita."

Earlier in the year many predicted that the Nintendo 3DS would obliterate Sony's previous record, but the handheld stumbled out of the gate selling a disappointing 113,000 units at launch. One of the reasons cited for the 3DS' poor performance was a lack of software — a scenario Sony is keen to avoid.

"Looking at the competition, perhaps the launch line-up was not as strong as they'd have liked it to be. We have always had in our minds that we needed to have a great line-up at launch and we're very pleased with how that's panning out," continued Ryan.

"I think it's comfortably the strongest line-up we've had for any platform launch and I've been around since the year dot."

Sony announced the PlayStation Vita's European launch line-up recently, and it is undeniably strong. Factor in a compelling list of third-party releases and there's no reason why the PS Vita shouldn't get off to a strong start at retail.
