Games Like Ruin Will Allow You To Make Progress Regardless Of Platform. But Most Importantly, Multiple SKUs Will Be Bundled Together.

Games such as Ruin will allow you to make progress on the PS3, save data to the cloud, and then continue progress on the PlayStation Vita. In prospect it's an amazing concept.

But many players have cited concern about the cost of such a practice. For example, will the game need to be purchased twice (once on Vita and once on PS3) to unlock its potential? According to Worldwide Studios boss, Shuhei Yoshida, Sony is planning to bundle the handheld and console versions of compatible titles together.

"One of the games we're making, called Ruin, we are developing both the Vita version and the PS3 version of that title. Both games will be packaged together," Shuhei explained in an interview with Eurogamer. "You can play the game at home on PS3, save your data on our PSN server on the cloud, and you can continue playing the game on PS Vita by downloading the save from the PSN. And you can do vice versa. It's a continuous experience, playing the same game on PS Vita and PS3."

According to Shuhei, Sony's not the only publisher looking to take advantage of the feature either.

"There is lots of interest from publishers and developers to do that. At Konami, Kojima-san announced the concept of Transfarring. The initial product will be between PSP and PS3, but he is also talking about between PS3 and Vita. Actually, it's easier to create the experience on PS Vita and PS3 because the performance is much similar, and the amount of RAM is pretty similar," he said.

We've said for a while that a hypothetical "Premium Bundle" featuring both PlayStation Vita and PlayStation 3 SKUs of the same game would be a tempting prospect. Imagine being able to pay a small premium in order to take your FIFA or Madden season on the go. The potential is massive. Let's hope Sony gets the pricing right.
