PushSquare's Most Anticipated PlayStation Games Of Holiday 2011.

Some of the games were included out of curiosity — Battlefield 3 and Sonic Generations might not be the best games of the year, but they are titles that we can't wait to play simply to see how they shaped up. Other games such as Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 and Resistance 3 narrowly missed out on a spot for being largely known quantities. We'd love it if either game surprised us, but while we're expecting both to be solid, enjoyable affairs, we're not expecting anything particularly new from either title.

Which brings us to the games that narrowly missed out on a spot. The Last Guardian would have topped the list if it was set to release this year as originally planned, but with the game pushed into 2012 it obviously missed out. Make no mistake though, Fumito Ueda's next opus is top of our overall most wanted list. Other games such as Twisted Metal and Ratchet & Clank: All 4 One narrowly missed out on the top five because we simply haven't seen enough of them to make an assumption. Both titles could swing either way, and while we're particularly excited for Twisted Metal, hands-on impressions dictate that the package could be very much a love-or-hate affair.

Skyrim is perhaps the most notable absentee from our most anticipated, with publications worldwide going ape over Bethesda's fantasy RPG. While we anticipate the game will live up to its lofty billing, the subject material does nothing for us, and hence why it's sitting somewhere outside of our top five.

It's worth making a small mention for upcoming PlayStation Network content; we did not include the likes of Journey, Amy and Dyad in our most anticipated because none have firm release dates, and because we wanted to stick to retail releases for this breakdown.

So without further ado (and in case you missed it) here's our top five most anticipated PlayStation games of Holiday 2011.

#5 - Team ICO Collection: "We suppose it’s unusual touting the collection of two classic PlayStation 2 games as an important 2011 release, but that’s perhaps testament to the strengths of both ICO and Shadow Of The Colossus."

#4 - Sonic Generations: "We suspect a number of readers will be keen on arguing with our decision to include Sonic Generations in this list, but we genuinely think the game’s an exciting prospect. Sonic’s been part of a number of a fantastic games over the past 20 years, and Generations seems like a perfect celebration of that."

#3 - Battlefield 3: "It’s the potential that excites us. Competition breeds excellence, and this year’s face-off between Call Of Duty and Battlefield 3 should result in a net win for gamers. Both franchises need to up their game. And while Modern Warfare 3 is pretty much a known quantity at this stage, we’re eager to see where Battlefield 3 ends up."

#2 - Batman: Arkham City: "We suspect a number of you reading this have already preordered Batman: Arkham City, which is an impressive feat when you consider just how little build-up the game’s had in terms of assets and trailers. It’s that kind of anticipation that puts Arkham City right at the top of our most wanted list."

#1 - Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception: "Uncharted 3 is unlikely to be a gameplay revelation, but the series is the best in the industry when it comes to story-telling and plot development."
