Could PlayStation Vita's Party System Make Its Way Onto The PS3?

Sony announced during E3 that its upcoming handheld, the PlayStation Vita, will support the feature, allowing you to chat with folks on your PSN friends list regardless of the content you (or they) are currently experiencing.

The feature is built into a service called Party, Sony's mini-social networking service that's part of the PlayStation Vita. Party allows you to create chat rooms, invite friends and quickly jump into games as a group. In a hand-on preview, PSU.com explains, "The actual Party system is remarkable in person. It’s fast, the voice chat is smooth, and the ability to join a friend in game happens in seconds. [SCEA's online technology group manager Ramana] Prakash showed how someone invited him to a room to chat, then his friend started to play Wipeout 2048, which he could see through a little logo below that friend’s name. At the touch of the screen on the Vita he joined his friend and was ready to compete."

Sounds pretty amazing. With the PlayStation Vita looking to bridge the gap between PS3 and handheld systems, Party sounds like something that should be added to the PlayStation 3 in the future. Prakash wouldn't say, stating “we are only announcing it for the Vita". However, according to PSU.com, an anonymous Sony representative hinted that it could make its way to PS3 eventually.

That would mean cross-game chat would finally be available on Sony's online gaming service. Look, personally we don't understand the appeal, but we know this addition would please a lot of users. Regardless, Party on the PlayStation Vita sounds like a great extension to the handheld's social experience.
