That's not really up for debate now. There's going to be a firmware update.
PS3 developers are already getting those updates, according to GamaSutra. The site reports that numerous development sources are being asked to use updated versions of the PS3 SDK implementing new security features.
While those sources remain unconfirmed, it doesn't take a genius to assume that this is probably happening.
