GDC 2011: Sony Announces Move.Me For Aspiring Tech-Types

Posted by Sammy Barker

Even we concede that some of the stuff budding developers have done with Microsoft's Kinect camera has been amazing

But what we really want is a super accurate light-sabre simulation using the PlayStation Move. Move.Me — a new initiative announced by SCEA as part of GDC this week — might make that happen.

But what is it? "In short, Move.Me is a server application that runs on the PS3 system. It allows anyone with a PS3 to experiment with motion controls and is officially sanctioned and supported by Sony Computer Entertainment. Move.Me sends the complete state of the PlayStation Move and navigation controllers to the PC, giving you the exact same data that licensed developers typically have access to."

Sounds kind of cool, right? Realistically this kind of application is not going to be intended for the average Joe Bloggs like you and me. However, it's going to be very interesting to see what smart people do with the PlayStation Move technology.

Anyone want to fulfil our fantasy? Vwoom.
