Shuhei Yoshida Was Sad To See Insomniac Go Multiplatform, But Reckons It Could Result In More PS3 Games.

According to Shuhei Yoshida, Sony and Insomniac "grew up together".

The Sony Worldwide Studios boss has told Develop magazine that Sony were aware of Insomniac's intentions way back in 2008. Insomniac signed a deal with EA Partners earlier this year, allowing them to publish a new IP on multiple platforms. According to the Sony man, the news saddened him on a personal level.

"We grew up together" he told Develop. “Insomniac’s first title was on our first platform.

"We had a long lasting partnership with the studio’s management team, and I personally was the producer in Japan for Spyro the Dragon and Rachet & Clank.”

Yoshida continued that Insomniac were “very open about their need to grow and their intention”.

"They want to reach the people they haven’t been able to,” he added, “so it was sad to hear a couple of years ago what their intent was, but as we are growing, Insomniac is growing too.

"And the studio has its own ambition, so I totally understand, and I am very happy how they approached the announcement. They made sure that people know they are still working with us.”

But Shuhei, ever the optimist, reckons there's some positive in Insomniac's decision.

"When you think about it, Insomniac are making multiplatform games. So PS3 owners should be happy because they are getting more Insomniac games as the studio hires more staff to develop more games”, he said.

With Insomniac not abandoning Sony entirely, this could indeed turn out to be the case. More PlayStation 3 games from Insomniac can never be a bad thing can it? Even if some of those games end up on the XBOX aswell.
