Report: Sony's Working On New Handheld Hardware, Yo

Our PSP's getting more play-time than our PlayStation 3 at the moment

The system's also topping the Japanese hardware charts. But with the 3DS on the horizon, and, y'know, pretty much every other person in the world hating on Sony's handheld, you can't help but feel like they could do with a refresher. Sony that is.

The PSP2's long been rumoured. According to a snippet from the Wall Street Journal, however, Sony's gunning for the iPad market — not the Nintendo DS.

Buried in a story about mobile high-speed connections, is this little quote:

Meanwhile, Sony is developing a portable device that shares characteristics of handheld game machines, e-book readers and netbook computers, according to people familiar with the matter. Some Sony e-book readers already come with 3G connections but it is not clear if a new wireless gadget will use carrier networks.</blockquote>

The PSP2? Not the PSP2? The new Sony "Does Everything You Could Ever Want A Portable Device To Do But Won't Sell Because It Hasn't Got A Half-Eaten Apple Logo On The Back"? Yep — we reckon the DEYCEWAPDTDBWSBIHGAH-EALOTB could be super-hit. That's exactly what this is.
