Sony Really, Really, Really Want You To Buy One Of These.

They're pushing it so hard it's almost startling. They've made a bet on this technology, and they're determined to lead with it. While other electronics manufacturers are pushing the tech too, nobody is pushing it quite as hard as Sony. There is risked attached — 3D is clearly in its infancy and Sony are aware of that. But there has to be adoption of the tech in order for it to grow. So what does Japan, Sony's home nation, think about the tech?

Well Kakaku.com surveyed a sample of 8,957 Japanese individuals, and found that while 67.4% had no interest in 3D technology (at the moment), 31.2% said they were interested in buying a new set.

While you can skew those figures in a negative way, that's actually a pretty decent proportion. If that 31.2% carried strong across the entirety of Japan's population, then that would translate into pretty healthy sales indeed. Particularly when you consider, again, that this push is still in its infancy. As far as drawbacks go, 70% of people said they had a problem with the glasses, while 50% said they had a problem with price.

Sony's on a rocking horse right now. If this tech hits the mainstream within the next five years there is every possibility they'll lead the market. But if it doesn't, they could be down and out. Perhaps a little dramatic, but this is a huge moment for the company.
