Traveller's Tales' Director Reckons Playstation Motion Controller May Just Trump A Slightly Flawed Natal Concept.

But it's reassuring to hear a developer talk positively about Sony's seemingly "forgotten" Playstation Motion Controller tech. The Natal talk since Microsoft's no-show "this is what it maybe can do" has stuck, but while Playstation Motion Controller widely impressed at E3 with a real-time demo, Sony's silence on the technology has been quiet to say the least.

Of course, it may be that the company are just sitting tight on the technology, waiting to blow us all away in the New Year. And that seems likely.

Despite us not getting more on the motion controller however, Sony have been inviting developers to go hands on with the technology. One such developer is Traveller's Tales director Jon Barton, who came away from seeing Playstation Motion Controller very "impressed".
[quote]
“I was actually more impressed with Sony’s motion capture solution than Microsoft’s Natal,” he told Develop.

“[Natal is] exceedingly clever, but the lag on the input and lack of physical buttons is really going to restrict the kind of games that can be done with it

“Sony’s solution will be cheap, accurate and will put buttons at your fingertips, meaning everything from action adventures to FPSes can be handled with the same input.”</blockquote>

Burton feels that Microsoft's Natal camera may suffer from a lack of tactile response, and limiting design possibilities due to lag. Sony's chief innovator Richard Marks hinted that in the move from EyeToy on Playstation 2 to the upcoming Playstation Motion Controller, Sony realised that buttons are paramount in gaming.

To be fair though, if you're reading this site, you're probably largely not bothered about either technology. The marketing will win this war however, not software.
