Playstation Home Is Now More Games Platform Focused Than Social Network Focused.

[quote]
"In the early days when we built Home, we really were building a social network for gamers," said platform director Jack Buser,  "Through that, over the last year, it's developed into a game platform, first and foremost."</blockquote>

Jack went on to describe Home as a "low-risk and high-margin" opportunity for developers. "Home is a high definition environment where you can create extremely polished games but with very rapid development cycles," he explained. "You can have small teams of developers — a couple of engineers and a few artists — crank out very sophisticated social gaming experiences in very small amounts of time."

The evolution of Home seems very much based on consumer reception. The early image of Home from around the 'net was very negative, and continues to tarnish the platform. But actually, those who visit Home today, will be pleasantly surprised with the content on offer. And while Jack admits the platform is yet to find its "killer app," we think the switch to games platform rather than social network platform is a good one.
