@get2sammyb: Yeah it was a design flaw that was correcected with the top loader NES. Appearently the blinking gray screen, scrambled title screens etc. wasn't the result of dirt, dust or anything like that it was how the front loader NES w as built. Supposedly the story goes that the NES was always suppose to be a top loader,you can see that with the Famicom but when it was brought over to America, due to the NA video game crash on 83 Nintendo didn't want it to resemble a video game console and even kept away from calling it that hence the name Nintendo Entertainment System and why Rob was packaged with it to give it the look of a toy more then a game system.
Also due to that reasoning the NA NES was designed to look and load like a VCR something that was a big hit in NA at the time to further push the idea that it wasn't a video game system. However due to that it caused damaged to the connectors over time which is why one would get the blinking gray screen of death.

The only 'retro' consoles I own are a PS2, Gamecube and Game Boy Advance. Even then, I'm not sure if they quite count as retro, but I guess they're older at least. In my house, however, we have a NES, SNES, Mega Drive, Sega Saturn, Dreamcast, N64, Neo Geo Pocket, Game Gear and a couple of Game Boys.

My mate and I spent several hours on a Saturday night watching lots of old videos on YouTube of retro games.
Modern games just aren't doing it for me at the minute so I decided to source and invest in some retro stuff.

TV arrived yesterday, just waiting for the Gamecube to arrive now. I've moved the PS2 down the bottom shelf now to sit with the PS1 and PS3. The Gamecube can go on the left side of the TV I think.
Yeah, I've recently played through Tomb Raider, Silent Hill 1, 2. Resident Evil on the PS1. It's good to go back and remember how things were in the golden era of gaming. Without none of this DLC and Day 1 patching BS.

The bottom picture shows a paper insert it came with with a few games displayed on it -interestingly enough one of the games shown is called "Doomslayer" which was apparently never made.

I've started getting the retro gaming bug of late and been keeping my eye out for bargains second hand.

To be honest, it has become a bit more about the collecting rather than having time to set up and play them all. I intend to try and complete a game on each system each year to keep them going. Next system will probably be a PS1 or GC.
