Topic: The Definitive Best Game of All Time Forum Megapoll!

Posts 1 to 20 of 331

So after 3 years of running these polls in the forums we have come full circle and this will be the last and definitive poll of polls for the best game of all time.

There will be multiple rounds over a few months so please check back to see where we are upto.

prolouge round
Pick your personal 6 favourite games of all time.

Stipulation: You can only pick a maximum of 2 games off any single gaming device / console / system.

Please include the system with the gamem when you are commenting; ie) Crash Bandicoot - PS1.

The prolouge round will close on Tuesday 19th February.

The amazing Pushsquare staff tend to write an article when the winner is decided so this poll is recorded in history!

Have fun, stay civil and lets see how many votes we can get!

In the next comment will be a list of games already into round 2. They are all previous winners from the polls in 15,16 and 17 so dont pick them as they are already in the competition.

Games already in Round 2;

Nintendo 2017 - Super Mario Bros 3, Zelda Ocarina of Time, Super Mario Galaxy.

Playstation 2016 - Uncharted 2, The Last Of Us, Witcher 3.

Multiplat 2015 - Final Fantasy 7

No need to pick any of these games listed as they are already in the competition.

Hmmmm this is tough. Especially hard to choose only two multiplatform games (if I understood the rules correctly). Anyway, here are my two cents:

Multiplat - Portal 2, Bioshock
PS4 - Bloodborne
Snes - Super Metroid, Zelda: A Link to the Past
Gameboy - Tetris

Now I may be an idiot, but there's one thing I am not sir, and that sir, is an idiot

  • The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess (GameCube)
  • Metroid Prime (GameCube)
  • Final Fantasy X (PS2)
  • Chrono Trigger (SNES)
  • Final Fantasy VI (SNES)
  • BioShock (Xbox 360)

2 games max per platform; 6 total...

PSP- Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII
GC- Sonic Adventure 2 Battle
PS2- Kingdom Hearts 2
PS3- South Park The Stick of Truth
PS4- Bloodborne, Uncharted 4

This was hard.

Well the Witcher 3, Ocarina of Time for definite and maybe Uncharted 2 and the Last of Us would have made my list...

N64 - Super Mario 64 - The game that defined what 3D gaming is. Every 3D game today has this at its core.

N64 - Goldeneye - Maybe not as good as Perfect Dark was that also added bots, but it defined the FPS multiplayer on console and the campaign was superb - also had a great way of tackling 'difficulty' with more objectives to complete - not just adjusting enemy/player health...

Xbox - Halo: Combat Evolved - Another genre defining game. This game set the rules for the modern FPS shooter on console and online gaming too. The campaign was unique at the time and size of the world and missions were phenomenal.

Xbox - Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic - A game that still stands up today as one of the best RPG's and best 'Star Wars' games.

PS4 - Horizon: Zero Dawn - Such a beautiful game with some of the most impressive enemies - Robot Dinosaurs. So many environments crammed in and each absolutely stunning. A modern day classic.

Multiple - Resident Evil - The game that defined the Horror Survival and went on to spawn many sequels, many copycats and even a big movie franchise. It may not be the 'best' in the series but its impact is legendary. In the end, it came down to which game had the biggest impact on 'gaming' and without this, we may not have had Bioshock, Dead Space etc and therefore has to go in as one of the most influential games of all time.

Of these 6, H:ZD is perhaps the most 'personal' where as all the others had a more profound impact on gaming in general. I know that each of the choices may not have been the best in their franchise or bettered by later copycats but its their impact on gaming at that time that sets these above others in my opinion. As far as I am concerned, the 'best' games are all more recent - more depth, more detail, Characters with more realism, more facial expression, much better acted (more like film these days) but then they had the benefit of advancement in technology and years to refine the game-play that that these established and why these are regarded as game-changers rather than just 'games'.

A pessimist is just an optimist with experience!

Why can't life be like gaming? Why can't I restart from an earlier checkpoint??

Feel free to add me but please send a message so I know where you know me from...

@themcnoisy How do remasters work? Are Shadow of the Colossus PS2, PS3 and PS4 three different games? Can people still vote for The Last of Us Remastered (PS4) in that case?

I'll just pick my favorite game from a few of my favorite platforms (or second favorite, because a few of those games mentioned in the second post would have been on my list).

Silent Hill

PS Vita
Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair

Nintendo Switch
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

Game Boy Advance
Metroid: Zero Mission

Zero Escape: Virtue's Last Reward

This was quite difficult.

Ok, in no particular order: Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (Mega Drive) The Last of Us (ps3/4) Red Dead Redemption (ps3) The Legend of Zelda, The Wind Waker (Game Cube) Arkham Asylum (I'll say Xbox 360 to get around the 2 games per console rule, even though I've never even played on that console) and Bloodborne (ps4).

PS1 - Tomb Raider
PS1 - Tekken 3
PS4 - Bloodborne
PS3 - Valkyria Chronicles
PS3 - LittleBigPlanet
PS Vita - Persona 4 Golden

Metal Gear Solid PS1
Portal PS3
God of War 2 PS2
Shadow of the Colossus PS2
Bloodborne PS4
Street Fighter 2 Sega Mega Drive

@Rudy_Manchego @mookysam @Fight_Teza_Fight @KratosMD @BAMozzy @Ralizah @JoeBlogs @LieutenantFatman @adf86 Thanks for the votes everyone! It is a few days early but hey Ive got the time so lets get the ball rolling. Some amazing games listed already thank you

@octane Put the system you want. Im pretty switched on so if we are in a situation were say Doom is listed twice on ps4 and xbox I would combine them to ps4 if it means the game then gets a bye into round 2. As for sotc again if that was listed as ps2 and ps4 I would combine them to ps2 if the same thing happened. The reason for the system rule is so we dont get bombarded with newer games all on ps4 or switch. I will list the games at the end of the prolouge and if anyone is unhappy at that point will address it then (hasnt happened yet, fingers crossed)

top 6 of all time, damn that's hard

i think i'm gonna go with

The Legend of Zelda A Link to the Past- SNES
FFVI- PS1 and before anyone says "that's a SNES game" not in the UK it wasn't here it was a PS1 game
Kingdom Hearts II- PS2
Super Mario World- SNES (and if i can't have that because you count FFVI as an SNES game then Super Mario Bros 3- NES)
Legacy of Kain Soul Reaver 2- PS2

There was nothing wrong with the way FFXIII was, ALL the FF games before it were linear too (apart from the MMO's) it's just they hid it better & also JUST because it has a auto battle mode DOESN'T mean you have to use it

-Crash Bandicoot 2: Cortex Strikes Back (PS1)
-Metal Gear Solid (PS1)
-Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater (PS2)
-Red Dead Redemption (PS3)
-Donkey Kong Country (SNES)
-Super Mario World (SNES)

Not easy picks. I actually left out some of my personal favorites for games that would actually stand a chance in the poll (Barring Crash 2, which I couldn't leave out).
