SilentE

At 14 I was playing GTA III for hours-week-months without even playing the missions. I couldn't believe I had this new huge 3D world I could goof off in. I still rate it very highly and it really ignited my passion for gaming.

Gosh, this would be the release of the Dreamcast, so lots of Sonic Adventure and Soul Calibur. Quake 3 Arena not so soon after. Probably one of my favourite years!

Had a Commodore 64 back when i was 14... Had the Power Play catridge which had Rick Dangerous, Stunt Car Racer and Microprose Soccer in one... The racing and sports have stayed with me since to be fair...

Other crackers then were Myth (also on catridge) and SCI and Fantastic Dizzy...

I stood there chattering in excitement, like a necrophile at a bus crash....

When I was in that age I played games like GTA, Midnight Club, Need for Speed, God of War, Formula 1 and many shooters. My taste has definitely changed with the PS4 Generation. I play far less shooter- and hack'n'slay games. Yes I have GTA V, Killzone SF and Tomb Raider, but compared with the previous generations, it's less. Now I look more for games like Life is Strange, Gravity Rush, Deus Ex, Trine and that.

I was 14 in 1989, so would have been playing stuff like Operation Wolf, Golden Axe, Wonderboy 3 The Dragons Trap (weird how I was talking about that game in another thread).

This now makes me feel well old but also make me want look into it a bit more to what other games i played that year.

That's got to be all sort of shoot them up in arcade machines. My fav was a small space ship that every time you beat a level you got to try and dock it to a bigger one making it a bigger spaceship.(not that one, making it longer spaceship, not the one you just add another one next to it)

The crowd, accepting this immediately, assumed the anti-Eurasian posters and banners everywhere were the result of acts of sabotage by agents of Goldstein and ripped them from the walls.

@JohnnyShoulder i was 5 in 1989, i was playing games like Super Mario Bros on the N.E.S

@FullbringIchigo I was a Spectrum/Commodore/Sega kid, until me and my mate swapped our mega drive and SNES consoles for a few months. My first Nintendo was a N64. Then ps1, ps2, X360.

@JohnnyShoulder i remember my Grandparents got me an N.E.S for Christmas one year and when the S.N.E.S came out my parents got one for my older brother but we shared, the PS1 was the first system i brought myself, i had a paper round and i was a ballboy at a local football league and i saved up for ages and finally got one with FFVII, my brother got a N64 and that was his last but one great thing was he would give his old systems to me so i ended up with both the S.N.E.S & N64 anyway

Man this thread is differently making me feel old LOL

I was all about the Survival Horror back in my teens. I fondly remember talking my mother into picking up Resident Evil 2 & 3 new and Silent Hill used at a local game shop on the week of my 14th b-day! I remember taking turns with my Dad the following day playing RE3. I bet we played and beat that game over 10 times together. Whats really neat is we still play today together. Both of us are really looking forward to the RE2 remake.

Final Fantasy VII (PS1)
Tales of Destiny (PS1)
Super Mario 64 (N64)
Mario Kart 64 (N64)
Starfox 64 (N64)

My habits still consist of a diet of roughly 60% RPG's and 40% Nintendo!

@themcnoisy Let's see, when I was 14 that was about 2006-07. That was right around the time Halo 3 released and was probably the height of my interest in FPS games and online multiplayer. My dad actually surprised me by asking what I wanted for Christmas that year and buying me the Halo 3 Xbox 360 and Halo 3 early. Somehow I even talked my parents into getting the wi-fi adapter for the system so I wouldn't need to drag an ethernet cable across the house. Around that time I also played the Call of Duty titles too, mostly COD 4 Modern Warefare. I also was getting back into Pokemon again after a middle school phase of "I'm too old for Pokemon". It was the introduction of online multiplayer for the game, and YouTube channels posting battle videos that pulled me back in. Also there was Advance Wars Dual Strike on the DS, and Fire Emblem GBA titles.

My tastes have changed since then. I lost interest with Halo after Halo Reach, Halo 4 failed to pull me in. And I lost interest with COD and FPS games in general after COD MW2 - largely due to burning out and largely haven't touched the genre since - though I have recently felt the desire to revisit those titles in some fashion. My interests in Advance Wars, Pokemon and Fire Emblem haven't changed however. They have been joined by an appreciation for the Sid Meyer Civilization series, card games like Pokemon for a while and Hearthstone more recently, and city building sims namely Cities Skylines.

And Mario games have been a thing throughout my life. Mario 3 as a kid, then 64, Galaxy, and most recently Odyssey.

It was 1988 when I was fourteen, so that meant Spectrum gaming! I've needed to refresh my memory what was released back then (c/o World of Spectrum website) and aside from playing games from magazine Cover Tapes, I now recall playing a lot of Bionic Commando, Laser Squad, Barbarian (the Psygnosis one, not the one featuring Maria Whittaker!) and Batman the Caped Crusader.

Would I go back to them? Probably ... I've got a lot of fondness for my Spectrum days and I know games I enjoyed back then wouldn't stand up in today's standards.

My tastes have weaved a little; I still like "bloke running around shooting things ", in the form of Uncharted, Batman et al, and I do enjoy RPGs and adventure games - I'm just enjoying different variations of the same genres I enjoyed as a teen.

Thank god we got rid of R: Tape Loading Errors !!

@Heavyarms55 I lost interest in Halo after Halo 4 too. It wasn't a great game regardless of the reviews.

@michaelf 'Bionic Commando, Laser Squad, Barbarian (the Psygnosis one, not the one featuring Maria Whittaker!) and Batman the Caped Crusader.'

I was playing Arkanoid, Driller and Roland in the caves around this time. Great memories.

@JoeBlogs I always felt Revenge of shinobi was the better game in comparison to shadow dancer. What's your opinion Joe?

@themcnoisy Had to skim back up the comments to find my original post to see why you tagged me. lol

I don't remember how it reviewed, I just remember my friend lending me a copy, playing it for a couple missions and just not feeling it. Couldn't and still can't give an exact reason as to why that was.

Great question!

Looking back honestly I'm playing the same stuff I was playing 20 years ago as a mid teen. Racers, action adventure/rpgs, shooters. I do play quite a bit more platformers nowadays though. Overall pretty much the same for better or worse
